Crystal Palace vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 21st August 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace will kick off their first home game of the season as they take on Arsenal in what should be a very good game on Monday evening. Last weekend Palace had a big win as they started the season in positive fashion by beating Sheffield United 1-0 away from home. They have also been able to keep Michael Olise, the player looked set to move to Chelsea at one point, so that is a big ‘keep’ for the Eagles who will now want to push on.

You feel a big determination from Arsenal to challenge for the title this season after missing out in the last campaign and they also started this one with a win with a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at home. The score makes the game look close but the Gunners boast a lot of quality and had many chances before making life a little harder for themselves than it should have been. This is not an easy fixture for the Gunners by any means and evening games usually give out a good advantage for the home side however the bookmakers will be making Arsenal the favourites to win this match.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Although Michael Olise is staying at the club it has been reported that he will be sidelined for a considerable amount of time due to a hamstring injury. Matheus Franca has a knock and may be assessed but for now remains a doubt. Will Hughes has a knock and could be set to miss out again.

Arsenal: Mohamed Elneny continues to be sidelined by a long term knee injury, Gabriel Jesus misses out again due to a knee injury also, it was expected at the beginning of the season that this would only affect the Brazilian for the first few games, so he may be back at the end of the month, updates pending. New signing Jurrien Timber is also out with a knee injury and looks set to be out for an extended period.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 2-0.

Arsenal have scored 6 goals against Crystal Palace in the last two meetings.

In the last 8 games Crystal Palace has managed just one win over Arsenal. At the same time four of those games have ended in draws.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Prediction:

Arsenal will be the odds on favourites but they will have to have more of a killer instinct here than in their first game or they could well drop points. With the expected levels of title challengers even drawing games early on can be quite a blow to title chances so Arsenal need to be ready and focused and we think they will be.

Bukayo Saka scored two goals when the sides last met earlier in the year and Gabriel Martinelli has scored a few over Palace too in recent games. Palace can play their part and there is a good return on seeing both teams to score so we will take that market also. The key in this game is silencing what will be a very vocal evening crowd and if the Gunners can keep possession early on and get the first goal we see no comeback from Roy Hodgson’s side. It may well be a close game but class should tell and we expect Arsenal to make it 2 wins out of 2.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Betting Tips:
