Crystal Palace vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th January 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

The Eagles will try not to be shot down by the Gunners when the two teams meet for this Saturday's lunch time kick off.

Crystal Palace will be all too aware that Arsenal could be a different prospect altogether now they have a new manager in charge and perhaps because of it this fixture may be a lot tougher than it could have been for them a few weeks ago.

Palace will have a lot of motivation to win besides the 3 points given that they are just above Arsenal in 9th place and will lose that to the visitors if they don’t win this game. The Eagles have won 1 game in their last five but have also lost just once in the same period and instead their results have been dogged down by draws. The club drew their last two games against Norwich and Southampton but they do come into this game unbeaten in their last 3 outings. At home Palace have lost 3 games, but their last defeat at Selhurst Park was against Liverpool at the end of November.

Arsenal suddenly have two wins in a row and look a changed team under Mikel Arteta. His tenure didn’t start well, dropping points at Bournemouth and losing at home Chelsea. However the club followed this up with a deserving 2-0 win over old rivals Manchester United and then knocked Leeds in the FA Cup with a strong 2nd half performance.

The one question mark is that both of those results came with home advantage and Arsenal’s away form has been poor for a good few seasons now. Indeed the club have picked up just 11 points from their last 30 on the road. Although with draws the Gunners haven’t lost for the last four games.

Arsenal could move up to 8th with victory here and if they can do so maybe we can start talking about a recovery. A top 4 place still looks in doubt but perhaps deep cup runs and a top 6 finish would be a minor success for the club who have threatened to even finish out of the top half of the table this season.

Team News:

Crystal Palace : Luka Milivojevic is suspended after being sent off in the cup match. Wilfried Zaha has a knock but it is hoped he will be fine for this game. Victor Camarasa has picked up a calf strain and will receive a late test. Max Meyer is a doubt also with a knock

Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Arsenal’s top scorer missed their FA Cup match due to illness and is touch and go for this match. It has been confirmed that Callum Chambers will miss the rest of the season due to his severe knee injury

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here the game finished 2-2.

The last 5 meetings in a row has seen both teams to score.

In the last 13 meetings Crystal Palace have beaten Arsenal just two times.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Prediction:

Arsenal have a very decent record at Crystal Palace and will look to try and continue that. Palace just seem to have mounting injuries and yet pull together and have certainly punched above their weight this season. A lot may depend for Arsenal on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, time and time again he seems to be the one difference for the Gunners, getting the vital goals. If he recovers from illness then Arsenal could win this game. Their away form is poor granted but at the same time they are under a new era in Mikel Arteta, however it is still a risk until we know more about Arsenal's capabilities away from home under Arteta. Therefore we feel it's safer to focus on the goals markets in this game

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.75

Anytime goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at 1.83
