England Premier League
Monday 4th April 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
This weekend has worked out fairly well for Arsenal who have had to wait until Monday evening to play. Some teams around them have dropped points and one of the most significant challenges for 4th place Manchester United could only draw at home to Leicester. But what has also been interesting is Chelsea who looked a shoe in for 3rd place this season. The Blues were stunned by Brentford as they lost 4-1 at home and if Arsenal were to win this game they would only be 2 points behind Thomas Tuchel’s side.
An added layer to this game is Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira who of course was a legend at Arsenal and he will still know his former club inside out as he tries to outwit current Gunners manager Mikel Arteta. This is a big month for the Eagles who will face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals and what an opportunity it would be for the club to reach the final. As for the league Palace are in 12th place and have 34 points and they are safe this season but have no chance for a European finish unless they do well in the cup matches. Current form has been solid as the Eagles are unbeaten in their last four games, with two wins and two draws. The clubs last result before the international break was a brilliant 0-0 game against Manchester City. At home Palace have drawn their last two games but the majority of their results have been draws and they have seven so far from 15 games played.
Arsenal are one of the most in form sides in the league and have earned 22 points from their last ten matches. Their last game ended in a 1-0 away victory over Aston Villa. While the Gunners have lost five games on the road this is all about the current and they come into this game having won their last 5 with victories including Villa, Watford, Wolves, Norwich and Leeds. This game against Palace will feel like a step up though from those sides.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson and James McArthur both have fitness issues and will be assessed. Micahel Olise is recovering well from his foot injury but is only 50/50 to return for this game. Wilfried Zaha is touch and go to make this game after his hamstring injury, a late decision will be made.
Arsenal: Aaron Ramsdale is only 50/50 for this game and has had a lack of training due to his muscle injury so remains a doubt. Takehiro Tomiyasu is being pencilled in to return for this game but has some fitness issues.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the match finished 2-2.
5 of the last seven meetings has seen the result end in a draw.
There is an 80% chance of seeing both teams to score.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Prediction:
Arsenal have the better side and are in very good form, they are a team who are determined to get 4th place and could well end up with 3rd. It has been quite a heated race for that final Champions League place but Arsenal at this present time are the only team ticking all of the boxes. They will have to be at 100% in this game though as Palace will give them nothing. Check the last minute team news as Wilfried Zaha’s absence would be a blow to the Eagles, he has been superb this season.
The Gunners are a decent price to win this and overall have a good record against Palace. But it is their current form which should strike fear into opponents and of course at the end of the day while Palace are a stubborn team at home they have little to play for now bar the FA Cup.
There are goals in this Arsenal side and we will pick a few players out to score with very good value on them also. But Arsenal should be able to control the pace of the game and we can only see one winner here.
