Chelsea vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 4th February 2024
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea need to get back on track because their form had significantly improved before they met Liverpool in their last game. The Blues had won their last 3 in a row however playing Liverpool away was a stretch and they ended up being battered 4-1. Chelsea are in 10th place and could possibly move up a few places with victory at the weekend, they have 31 points and the objective has to be to finish in a European place. Certainly it has been a tough season for the club but they have shown steps forward and will be expected to win this game. Home form has seen 5 wins but 3 defeats and 3 draws, although that record can be forgotten about when we concentrate only on their recent home form which has seen 4 wins in a row with victories over Brighton, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Wolves are in 11th place and two points behind their hosts so this represents a chance for them to demote the Blues. In midweek Wolves were involved in a classic game against Manchester United however they lost in the end but had come back from 3-1 down to level it to 3-3 but lost to a 97th minute winner. Wolves have done the hard work and have no danger of going down and like their opponents their season is all about trying to qualify for Europe. Wolves' decent season has been based on their home form and away from it they have managed to lose 6 games from 11 played. However credit is due because they have gone their last two games unbeaten after thrashing Brentford 4-1 and drawing 0-0 with Brighton.

Team News:

Chelsea: Trevoh Chabolah has some fitness issues but is very close to return and could be assessed. Levi Colwill will miss out with a tendon injury, Marc Cucurella is a month away from returning with an ankle injury. Robert Sanchez could return next week and Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia and Reece James remain out long term.

Wolves: There are no injuries for the club but Hwang Hee-Chan and Boubacar Traore are on international duty.

Chelsea vs Wolves Prediction:

Chelsea are 1.58 to win this game and that may be decent value for some customers. We expect Mauricio Pochettino’s side to come out all guns blazing so to speak because this is a team who have been in good form and they need to put the Liverpool result to one side and admit that they are not at that level just yet. The good news for the Blues is that their injury list is vastly reducing and they have some real quality in the team. It is all about them clicking and showing that potential and the club has a very good chance of finishing the season in a strong way.

Wolves have a terrible record away to Chelsea although they will fancy their chances against a side who are still adapting under Pochettino but we will back Chelsea to get the glory here and we could also see a few goals. Keep a close eye on Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku up front, injury has hampered him but when he gets the chances he looks like a natural goalscorer and we expect him to get on the score sheet.

Chelsea vs Wolves Betting Tips:

Chelsea to win at 1.58

Anytime goalscorer: Christopher Nkunku at 2.50

Anytime goalscorer: Cole Palmer at 2.50
