Chelsea vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 8th April 2019
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Arsenal’s defeat at Everton has left the door open for Chelsea and a top 4 place, and this is a must win game for The Blues if they are serious about qualifying for the Champions League.

This Monday night game is sure to be a sell out between the London rivals, and Chelsea have found some form again winning back to back games. Those wins came against Cardiff and Brighton, and their last match at Stamford Bridge against Brighton was a comfortable 3-0 win for Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri’s team are currently in 5th and could go 3 points clear of Arsenal with a win here, although they would have played a game more. The difference in goals is 4, so winning big here would also be a massive advantage.

Even though Chelsea have drawn 5 games at home, overall their record at Stamford Bridge is impressive with 10 wins and just one loss all season.

West Ham are going through inconsistency but what has been worrying for the club is that they look fatigued. Even when they beat Huddersfield 4-3 they actually played poorly and their last defeat against Everton they looked toothless The damining report from the Everton game where The Hammers were at home was that they had 1 shot on target.

The problem for Manuel Pellegrini’s team is that there isn’t much too play for. There might be an extra place for a Europa League spot freed up, but currently The Hammers are 5 points adrift of that with 4 other teams battling for one place. How much fight does this team have?

Away from home West Ham have lost 8 from 15 games and their recent away form is woeful with just 1 point won from their last 15.

Team News:

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso has a slight hamstring injury but could be assessed ahead of the game. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has the same hamstring injury but again it seems minor and he could also be assessed. Pedro could be back after his calf injury

West Ham: Andy Carroll was supposed to be back but there is no sign of him and his ankle injury. Samir Nasri could be fit again to be involved in this game

Chelsea vs West Ham Head to Head:

The last time the teams played at West Ham earlier in the season the game finished 0-0.

Last season the game at Chelsea finished 1-1.

West Ham have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2002.

Chelsea vs West Ham Prediction:

Chelsea have blown hot and cold which has left Sarri’s position at the club at 50/50. But they should have more than enough for West Ham at home. The problem for The Hammers is that it’s not as if they have been playing well and losing, their recent performances have not been up to scratch. Chelsea do come into this game with back to back wins, have a good record at home this season and have an excellent record over West Ham here. Everything points to a home win. But The Blues are around 1.33 to win which is very short so we will look into some different markets.
