England Premier League
Saturday 3rd September 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
This London derby needs no introduction and is always a cracking fixture. Chelsea have been tipped to finish in the top 4 and be one of the stronger teams this season but lately that hasn’t gone to plan with the Blues losing twice in their last three games. Both defeats came away from home, granted, but were against opposition that Thomas Tuchel’s side would have been expected to beat in Leeds and Southampton.
Now one has to wonder even if this early in the season there is not pressure on Tuchel to keep his job? With new owners in charge who have spent over £200m they might be ruthless if their early season business plan is not going to plan. Chelsea are in 10th place and are already 8 points behind league leaders Arsenal. They come into this game on the back of the Southampton defeat, however they did win their last game at home beating Leicester 2-1 and had to play with 10 men.
West Ham have looked lacklustre so far however they did spring to life against Tottenham in midweek to claim a 1-1 draw. The Hammers really upped the gears in the second half and that type of attitude will have pleased the fans and given them some hope. New star signing Lucas Paqueta got some minutes in too and it will be interesting to see if he can make an immediate impact. There has been talk that manager David Moyes would have to change the system up at the Hammers to play into Paqueta’s preferred game, so we will have to see how that pans out.
Team News:
Chelsea: Trevoh Chalobah has a slight knock and will be assessed. Reece James will also be looked at after missing the last game through illness. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has a knock and will be assessed, N’Golo Kante is out for another 4 weeks due to his hamstring.
West Ham: Craig Dawson looked tipped to leave the club, but remains however he is only 50/50 to make this match due to a thigh injury. Aaron Cresswell will be assessed as he recovers from a muscle injury, Gianluca Scamacca may return from illness after missing the Tottenham game and Ben Johnson is out with a knock.
Chelsea vs West Ham Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 1-0.
In the last 10 meetings both teams have four wins each and two draws.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Chelsea vs West Ham Prediction:
After starting the season with three defeats the Hammers have gone their last two games unbeaten, is this the start of their season proper? The club are in 14th place but they could jump a couple of positions with a win here and set themselves up well for the remainder of the month, that’s how quickly things can change in football. Make no mistake though all of the pressure is on Chelsea and if West Ham can play a great game they can win here. But time and again we have seen that the Hammers have found it hard to be consistent over 90 minutes and Chelsea still have a plethora of quality within their side.
The Hammers are a superb price to win here, but we think with home advantage Chelsea should be too strong and will back them for the win. One player to look out for in the visitors is Michail Antonio, the forward has got off to a slow start but also seems to have good games in the London derbies and he was very unlucky not to score against Tottenham in midweek, hitting the post in that one. So he could be worth backing for anytime scorer.
Chelsea vs West Ham Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Chelsea) at 1.95
Anytime goalscorer: Michail Antonio at 5.00
A red card to be shown in the game at 5.00
