England Premier League
Sunday 29th November 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
What a game this promises to be on Sunday. A London derby, 1st vs 3rd, both clubs in form and Jose Mourinho returning to his old club Chelsea where he won 3 league titles.
Chelsea have now gone their last 11 games without defeat, with ironically their last loss coming in a penalty shoot out in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham after that game had ended 1-1.
With three wins in a row the Blues have climbed up to 3rd place and are just 2 points behind Tottenham. Frank Lampard’s side have really clicked and are clocking up the goals with 9 scored in those three games. In midweek Chelsea confirmed their qualification for the knock out stage of the Champions League by beating Rennes in France 2-1.
At home Chelsea have been less consistent but seem to be turning around their fortunes and have currently won 50% of their games and their last home match ended in a 4-1 win over Sheffield United.
Tottenham fans are probably dreaming a little although the reality even if they are in 1st place is that they are only there on goal difference. Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester are all within touching distance and both Manchester clubs may wake up soon, so nothing can be taken for granted. Still it cannot be denied that the club have started the season well.
Only Chelsea have scored more goals than Tottenham and that tells us we could see a very entertaining game. Tottenham have the best form in the league coming into this match and have won their last 4 in a row. Their last victory in the league came against none other than Manchester City beating them 2-0. Away from home Tottenham have a 100% record winning all four games including their infamous 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United and they have only conceded 3 goals on the road.
In midweek in the Europa League Tottenham swept aside Ludogorets 4-0 and will be ready for this game even though Chelsea have had longer to prepare for it.
Team News:
Chelsea: The Blues only worry is Christian Pulisic who isn’t expected back for another 10 days, other than that the club have no more major injury problems coming into this match.
Tottenham: Toby Alderweireld is out with a groin injury and could miss at least the next 3 weeks. Harry Winks is hoping to return after his knock sustained during international duty. Erik Lamela has been out with an unspecified problem there is no update on his status but looks to be a doubt for this match.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 2-1.
Chelsea have won the last 3 league meetings against Tottenham.
Tottenham last won at Chelsea in the league in 2018.
The clubs last met in September in the Carabao Cup the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with Tottenham winning on penalties, Tottenham were at home.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction:
Tottenham have been very exciting and in Henug-Min Son and Harry Kane they have the strike partnership to open up any club. However one has to wonder if Jose Mourinho will see this clash against one of the in form sides in Europe in Chelsea as more of a tactical match up?
This could back fire if Tottenham come here to defend and attack on the counter and recent results have not gone their way. But there does seem to be an incredible project at Tottenham since they haven’t won the league in 60 years, and the players may just have that bit more motivation in the tough games coming up.
Whilst this match could end in a draw with both teams classically cancelling each other out it is hard to deny we will likely see goals when we have seen 43 already been the two sides. This is set to be a very interesting and entertaining game, who will blink first?
