England Premier League
Monday 15th February 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
Chelsea have climbed to 5th but by the time their game starts they could be down to seventh depending on the West Ham and Everton games. None of that will matter to the Blues though because victory over Newcastle on Monday evening would see them move past Liverpool and into 4th place.
New Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has looked untouchable in his first 4 games in charge, Chelsea have 3 wins and 1 draw, and have only conceded once, which was an own goal. It’s 3 wins in a row too for Chelsea and they come into this game in great confidence. Even though Chelsea have picked up 19 points from 33 at home that is enough to give them the 3rd best home record in the league and it’s just 1 defeat from their last five games at Stamford Bridge. Together with the first two months of the season this has been Chelsea’s best period so far.
Newcastle are in 17th place and one glance at their league standing would have fans calling for Steve Bruce’s head. At the same time the Magpies have a 10 point safety cushion, so unless there is a total collapse at the club they should be safe this season. The worry though is that the club have not progressed from last season and are looking quite stale.
Steve Bruce’s team have the advantage of playing a game less than 18th placed Fulham, this in theory is that game in hand and it will be a difficult one. Newcastle won last weekend as they beat Southampton 3-2 at home. On the road Newcastle have lost six from 11 games though their win at Everton stopped a 5 game losing streak.
Team News:
Chelsea: Andreas Christensen received a head injury though it is thought to be minor and he is rated as 50/50 to play in this game, though it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is rested. Kai Havertz has missed the last few games due to a knock and remains a doubt for this one with no updates on his situation. Thiago Silva is ruled out but is aiming to be back next weekend after his muscle injury. Timo Werner is reported to have recovered from his dead leg and should be fine to play in this game.
Newcastle: A huge blow for Newcastle has been reported in the last few days as striker Callum Wilson has been ruled out for between 6-8 weeks due to his hamstring. Fernandez will be assessed and is 50/50 for this game after recovering from injury. Jeff Hendrix is suspended because of his sending off last weekend. Jamaal Lascelles will be assessed and is rated as 50/50 for the match. Javier Manquillo could miss up to six weeks with an ankle injury. Fabian Schar could be out until April with a knee injury.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 1-0.
Chelsea have won 4 from the last 5 league meetings between the two sides.
The last 3 league meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.
Newcastle have not won away at Chelsea in the league since 2012.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Prediction:
Newcastle come into this game with a terrible record against Chelsea, an inferior squad- with all due respect, 14 points behind their hosts, the fifth to worse away record in the league, and a lot of key injuries. The only way they will come away with points is from a non Chelsea performance and whilst that could be in the offing when Tuchel’s ‘honeymoon period’ is over we think that’s too soon to call right now and Chelsea are on a mission for a Champions League place. The fact that Liverpool are imploding is helping chasing clubs like Chelsea obviously, and the team should be prepared and up for this game.
The bookmakers think the same way as us and Chelsea for that reason are huge odds on and there is no value in their price especially if taking their win as a single. So we are forced to look into different markets and backing the home side to be winning at half time brings the price more into our favour.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
