England Premier League
Saturday 8th December 2018
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
The Premier League game of the weekend will take place on Saturday in the early evening kick off when Chelsea the 2017 champions take on Manchester City the 2018 champions.
Chelsea’s bid for the title is hanging by a thread with recent losses against Tottenham and Wolves which was seen as a major shock and the West Londoners are now 10 points behind their visitors. If they lose this game it could well be the final nail in the coffin for their league hopes.
The problem for Maurizio Sarri’s men is that even a top 4 place could be in jeopardy and they will have to find their early season form again. There have been rumours that Sarri has lost a very fragile dressing room, if that’s true we have already seen what happened with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in his 2nd season here. But again these are just rumours. What also hasn’t helped is Eden Hazard by far Chelsea’s best player talking too much about a possible move to Real Madrid.
On form alone Chelsea would be in 9th place which should tell you everything you need to know. What about the positives? Well we could begin with the fact that The Blues are still unbeaten at home this season with 5 wins and 3 draws. They are also scoring on average 2 goals a game at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City just can’t shake off Liverpool as they lead the Merseyside team by two points. Jurgen Klopp’s team have emerged as the only real challenger for City’s title this season.
Pep Guardiola’s men come here unbeaten in the league after 15 games. They have picked up 17 points from a possible 21 away from home and have conceded just 2 goals all season on the road.
Team News:
Chelsea: Victor Moses is the only doubt for The Blues with a back injury, but might be assessed ahead of the game
Manchester City: The rumours are that Kevin De Bruyne will be brought back for this game, but this has not been confirmed as yet. Sergio Aguero should be fully fit after his muscle injury
