Chelsea vs Leicester: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea were stunned last weekend as they lost 3-0 away to Leeds and that match felt like the surprise of the weekend. One has to wonder, at least on the road, if that is a sign of things to come from Thomas Tuchel’s side this season? At the same time it could be a one off and the club who still look impressive on paper will be focused and ready for this game.

There shouldn’t be too much worry at the club at present even though it’s been two games without a win. Last time they were at home they drew 2-2 against a good Tottenham side but played very good football and the potential of the club this season was there for all to see. Chelsea’s only win so far was via a penalty against Everton on the opening day of the season and seeing the club in 12th place coming into this weekend does not feel right. They will be the odds on favourites to win here so a lot can change.

Leicester if anything are entertaining and we can already see that there are goals in the team. That is the good news. The bad news is that they are in 19th place with 1 point from a possible 9. Against Arsenal who are now in 1st place they had a fight but lost the game 4-2 in the end. Last weekend was more disappointment losing 2-1 at home to Southampton which wasn’t expected, and that was supposed to be the game to see Brendan Rodgers start kick on. So they have scored five times in three games but conceded 8 which is the most of any club so far.

Team News:

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended for his sending off v Leeds. Armando Broja is only 50/50 to return from a knock. N’Golo Kante is out for a possible 3 weeks due to a hamstring injury. Mateo Kovacic is out with a knee injury with no fixed return date.

Leicester: Ryan Bertrand is still out with a knee injury. James Maddison will be assessed as he has a slight muscle injury. Ricardo Pereira is out long term with an Achilles injury.

Chelsea vs Leicester Head to Head:

It’s been almost 4 years since Leicester beat Chelsea away from home.

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Leicester Prediction:

Chelsea will be licking their wounds after the Leeds game and really need to get back on track with victory here. They should fancy their chances given how leaky Leicester have been so far and if Rodgers has not found a way to shore up the defence then the Foxes who conceded four goals just two weeks ago when last in London could do a similar job.

However Chelsea have not got going yet and there are some question marks over them. But they do seem to be pointing in the right direction and perhaps this season may well be summed up by taking one step backwards before any progressive steps forwards. The Blues are really lacking a quality centre forward although when they had Romelu Lukaku manager Tuchel had no idea what to do with him. So for now goals mean coming from the middle of the park and Tuchel and Chelsea really need to respond.

As for Leicester they should get better after their rocky start but away from home right now will be tricky. One has to wonder when Jamie Vardy will get back to his goalscoring ways too, the Foxes could do with him finding his form again.
