Chelsea vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th March 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea need a performance after a woeful run and it was supposed to have come in their last home game where all these international stars had to do was beat the bottom side Southampton, and they lost. The Blues followed that up with their 9th defeat of the season in the London derby falling to Tottenham in a 2-0 score line and it is scratch your head time as to why these very talented players are not producing the goods? Could it be that some players have been hyped too much? Could it be that Graham Potter is not as great a manager as we think he is? Or could it be that Potter has lost the dressing room and international players demand an international manager?

Potter needs to find some tricks and needs them fast because it is increasingly likely that Chelsea won’t even be able to claim a 4th placed finish at this rate. Currently that gap is 14 points and even though the Blues have a game in hand over 4th placed Tottenham it almost barely matters. Current form has seen just 3 points earned for Chelsea from the last 15.

Leeds have a new manager in Javier Gracia and he got off to a winning start as his side beat Southampton 1-0 at home. In fairness it was a good fixture to start his journey by but Leeds will be expected to come crashing down in this tough fixture even if Chelsea have looked very average so far this year. The win over the Saints was huge for Leeds though and they are no longer in the bottom three and come into this weekend in 17th place but with only one point being the difference between the bottom three they could well be down there again come the end of the weekend. Away form has been poor with just six points won from 36 and 8 of those games have been losses which includes 3 of their last four away games too. Leeds last away game ended in a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Everton.

Team News:

N’Golo Kante is still a week away at least as he tries to regain fitness, Thiago Silva has a knee injury and could be out long term. Christian Pulisic is still sidelined with his knee, Edoaurd Mendy remains out with his hand injury.

Leeds: Pascal Struijk has been out for a month with a head injury but has been pencilled in to return for this game but will be assessed first. Rodrigo is still sidelined with his ankle and isn’t due back until April. Luis Sinisterra has a muscle injury and remains a doubt to be ready for this game. Adam Forshaw and Stuart Dallas are still sidelined through long term injury.

Chelsea vs Leeds Head to Head:

Last season Chelsea won this fixture 3-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leeds won 3-0 and that was Leeds’ first victory over Chelsea in 10 games.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Leeds Prediction:

Chelsea are 1.62 to win this game and that should tell you a lot because under normal circumstances that price should be at least 1.44 or even shorter. Chelsea are zero value to win this game and whilst they should win and are due a vintage performance with the quality of players they have you may not see many punters going out of their way to back them. Leeds are the better value and can be backed at 5.00 to take the honours and while we think that is a stretch perhaps backing them using the handicap will make more sense.

Leeds are poor away from home and this should be a straight forward win for the Blues but it’s simply diffciult to trust a side who can’t win games lately and have just lost to the team in bottom place. If Leeds can score first or frustrate their opponents it is possible that this is the type of game that could boil over so back a red card to be shown in the game.

Chelsea vs Leeds Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+1 Leeds) at 1.77

A red card shown in the game at 5.00
