Chelsea vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 8th March 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea are still unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel and they are looking stronger every week. The Blues have pierced themselves into the top 4 and come into this game with 47 points and look full of passion and commitment for their new manager. What has changed significantly for the club has been in defence. Tuchel realised that Chelsea were giving soft goals away and he has obviously worked on that and shored up defence, and attack on its day looks frightening.

One could say that Chelsea came of age against Liverpool in midweek under Tuchel. True the Reds have been in poor form but this is still Liverpool and still a game that was played at Anfield, and Chelsea went there and kept a clean sheet and walked away with 3 points in a 1-0 victory. It was huge, also because Liverpool of course will be a top 4 rival and Chelsea were able to move 4 points clear of the current champions.

Everton are at their best away from home this season and the club have the 4th best away record in the Premier League where they have earned 29 points from 39, that is quite a return. Everton have only lost two games on the road and their last away match was a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Everton are in 5th place and could overtake Chelsea with a win here and Carlo Ancelotti’s side have a game in hand over the Blues. Overall form for the club have been good having won their last 3 games and they have been able to surge up the table because of it. Everton have had a tendency to slip in and out of form quickly but everyone associated with the club will be hoping that they can maintain some consistency to have a strong finish this season.

Team News:

Chelsea: Tammy Abraham is being pencilled in to return for this game after his ankle injury but will be assessed. Thiago Silva has some fitness issues but could be back for this game but he is currently only 50/50.

Everton: Seamus Coleman has a knock but is expected to be back for this game as does Tom Davies with the same problem. Fabian Delph has a tendon injury and is a major doubt for this game. Yerry Mina is out for the next few weeks with his calf and James Rodriguez has a knock but will be assessed.

Chelsea vs Everton Head to Head:

Chelsea won this fixture last season 4-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Everton won 1-0.

Everton have not beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the league since 1994.

5 from the last seven games between the clubs has ended in under 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Everton Prediction:

Chelsea are the odds on favourites to win this game and it is hard to argue with that but they are not blowing teams away with massive scores, so we're reluctant to back them on the handicap for better odds.

Still Chelsea are looking solid in defence and attack and hold the ball up well, they have the players to have a strong finish to the season. Of course for Everton unlike many of the teams up there they have no European football to think about so that could be an advantage as they can concentrate on a top 4 finish.

This should be an entertaining game as Everton simply look fearless going forward and can play a pacy game away from home. It is also Ancelotti’s former club he is visiting and he will know the ins and outs of the club better than anyone. If Everton come here to defend it could be a long night for them, they must present a threat.
