England Premier League
Saturday 14th August 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
Is this one of those seasons where Chelsea emerge as champions? There has been a pattern with the Blues over the past decade of having one brilliant season every now and again and last season once Thomas Tuchel was appointed the magic seemed to have come back.
Chelsea went on to win the Champions League beating the Premier League champions Manchester City in the final, although the Blues almost messed up finishing in 4th place at the final hurdle. Under Tuchel Chelsea look solid and they will be talked up when it comes to winning the league title this season. In truth Chelsea look strong in all departments and now they have added Romelu Lukaku to their ranks for a cool £115m. Lukaku was clearly needed as the Blues were missing a more consistent striker.
It’s all change at Crystal Palace with veteran manager Roy Hodgson retiring from the game. In has come Patrick Vieira known to Arsenal fans of course and the former midfielder did a pretty decent job at Nice in Ligue 1 before it turned sour in his final few months. It will be interesting to see Vieira managing in the Premier League.
Pressure will be on Palace though from the get go and they have landed a very tricky fixture away from home and they will be the big underdogs to get anything from the game.
Team News:
Chelsea: N’Golo Kante has a slight knock and is a doubt for this game. New signing Romelu Lukaku will not be available.
Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson is out long term from last season with his knee injury and is not due back until the end of the year. Luka Milivojevic is out because of personal reasons. Michael Olise could miss the first month due to a back injury.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this meeting 4-0.
Chelsea have scored 8 goals past Palace in the last 2 games.
Crystal Palace have won at Stamford Bridge on two occasions from the last 6 games played.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
There shouldn’t be any problems for Chelsea to win this game though Palace do carry some threats especially in the form of Wilfried Zaha who had a great season. But Chelsea are the European champions, the fans are back and they have an abundance of quality and usually score quite a few goals against Palace.
It may not be worth our time to back the home win because of the short price, so we will look into different markets, as we feel this game could have quite a few goals. But many pundits will be expecting a win for Chelsea as they aim to start off the new season with a bang.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
