England Premier League
Saturday 3rd October 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
It’s fair to say that it has been an uneven start for Chelsea and after all of the hype with their new signings their first 3 games of the season have felt like an anti-climax. Of course we shouldn’t jump to conclusions, it is early days but the Blues would have been hoping for a better start.
Frank Lampard’s team have just 1 win from their first 3 games, and in recent weeks have lost to Liverpool at home and then drawn away to West Bromwich Albion. That game ended 3-3 and Chelsea will have been happy given that they were losing 3-0, but then again they have to question why they were so far down in the first place. To compound matters Chelsea were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Tottenham after the game ended 1-1 and they lost on penalties. So all in all not a good week for Lampard and Chelsea.
Crystal Palace’s 100% start to the season ended last week as they lost at home 2-1 against Everton. They were unfortunate if truth be told as the penalty against them seemed harsh, although rules are rules even if they ought to be changed.
Palace have already gone to Manchester United and won and if they are 100% there is no reason that they can’t cause Chelsea plenty of problems. The Eagles come into this game in sixth place and are 2 points in front of their hosts.
Team News:
Chelsea: Christian Pulisic was being tipped to return around this time but that has now been delayed for at least another 2 weeks.
Crystal Palace: Michy Batshauyi is ineligible to face Chelsea since they are his parent club. Scott Dann has been out for a few games for an unknown reason and there has been no update on his status, so he could miss this encounter also. Jeffrey Schlupp could return after a slight muscle injury. Sam Woods is being tipped to return for this match after his knock.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
It’s early in the season granted but Chelsea need to move on and start winning games consistently, this is something we haven’t seen yet. They are without a win in their last two games in all competitions.
The Blues will have to be at their best to get anything in this game even if they are at home. Palace have proved that they are going to be a tough opponent. It’s incredible to see that they are around 8.00 to win this game and it is tempting to back them on the handicap to upset Lampard’s side.
Chelsea are more than capable of winning the game but at odds of 1.44 that doesn’t represent great value for a side who have struggled in the opening few weeks. It would have been good for Timo Werner to have scored in midweek, a striker needs that for confidence and it might be worth selecting him to score at the weekend. This is a game Chelsea can win but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the club drop more points.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
Crystal Palace to win on the handicap with a +2 goal start at 1.62
Anytime goalscorer: Timo Werner at 1.91
