Chelsea vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 31st January 2021
Kick off at 12noon GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of Chelsea was at home and ended 0-0 against Wolves and the German coach will get a second bite of the cherry when his side face Burnley at the weekend.

Chelsea were the better side against Wolves and yet they couldn’t score a goal and starting off your career at Chelsea with a home draw is nothing short of frustrating, and one would think that this match needs to end in a victory for the Blues. Overall Chelsea have won once in their last five games and on form the side would be in 14th place. There are at least 2 clubs that could move in front of the Blues if they lose or even draw.

Burnley are in 15th place but have found some form and come into this encounter having won their last 2 games. They have been impressive wins too becoming the only side to have beaten Liverpool at Anfield in four years and they followed that up with a 3-2 victory at home to Aston Villa.

Sean Dyche’s team overall do not have a good away record where they have won just 20% of their games but it is the here and now that counts and no one can deny that they come into this game with a lot of confidence. They are 9 points clear of the bottom three also so they will play with no panic and no fear and could be quite open to attack even if they are away from home.

Team News:

Chelsea: Chelsea have a full squad and no injury concerns ahead of this match.

Burnley: Charlie Taylor is back in training after injury but is 50/50 to make this game. Ashley Barnes will face a late test on a knock and Josh Brownhill looks to have recovered from a recent foot injury but will face an assessment before a decision is made.

Chelsea vs Burnley Head to Head:

Chelsea have won the last 2 games against Burnley with the same score line of 3-0.

It’s been 7 games since Burnley beat Chelsea going back to 2017.

The last 7 league meetings in a row have all seen over 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Burnley Prediction:

Chelsea should win but at odds of 1.30 to do so and the way they have been playing you have to ask yourself is that any value? Burnley are around 10.00 to win and that looks like a huge price for a club who have just beaten Liverpool away from home, but with all things considered Chelsea should win under a new manager and get the three points.

But this game might not be as convincing as Chelsea would like as it may take time for them to really click under Tuchel, and if they don’t start well they could be limited in the goals and or opportunities that come their way. In a way then there is much more pressure on Chelsea to turn up and prove that they have turned a corner and Burnley can play relaxed.

The temptation is to back the away side on the handicap because the price is too good, and with a +2 asian handicap Chelsea would have to win by 3 or more goals for the bet to lose. This is a fixture that usually sees a lot of goals and Burnley could play very open so we expect to see a few here and will back that market also.

Chelsea vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+2.0 Burnley) at 1.50

Over 2.5 goals at 1.72
