Chelsea vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 28th September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Frank Lampard tasted his first victory at home in midweek as his Chelsea side demolished Grimsby 7-1 in the Carabao Cup.With the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James scoring, the manager should be thrilled that his youngsters are adding to the goals.

The victory was fantastic but the real work against a Premier League team re-starts when Brighton make the small trip into London on Saturday afternoon.

Last weekend Chelsea lost their first game at home after Liverpool came away with a 2-1 victory. However many viewers saw a very close game much like the score line where Chelsea could have easily have come away with a draw as they got better as the game went on.

But at Stamford Bridge Chelsea have suffered from dropping points, against Leicester they were winning 1-0 only for the game to finish 1-1. The biggest shock was against Sheffield United when they ran into a 2-0 lead only for the Blades to cut them down and the game finishing 2-2.

Chelsea are on that cusp one thinks where this could still go either way for their new manager, but at the same time he remains upbeat and the Blues are playing some very good football. One suspects they will start earning maximum points at home sooner rather than later. They come into this game in 11th place and 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Brighton were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home to Aston Villa amongst a host of changes and the side will be looking to be refreshed for this very tough game.

They are in 15th place and have no wins in their last five matches, coming off the back of two draws in a row. Their last league match ended in a dour 0-0 result at Newcastle. Apart from the 4-0 demolition job that Manchester City inflicted on them they have performed decent away from home.

Team News:

Chelsea: Andreas Christensen has a knock and is 50/50 to return for this game. Olivier Giroud could return after illness ruled him out of the last two games. Antonio Rudiger was pencilled in for this game for his return but only remains at 50/50 to be fit

Brighton: Leon Balogun is out with a muscle injury. Bernardo looks set to miss this one with a knock. Shane Duffy is ruled out after injuring his calf and could be out for the next 4 weeks. Solly March is fighting to be fit after his hamstring injury and remains 50/50

Chelsea vs Brighton Prediction:

Chelsea have shown a lot of promise and have yet been very stop start this season. But at home against Brighton on the back end of scoring 7 goals in the cup in the midweek everything looks set up for Lampard to win his first league game at home in charge of the Blues.

Brighton have stumbled since the opening weekend and although their results so far this season have been dominated more by draws, one here would feel like a victory. We will back the home side and we can see them scoring a few goals too.
