Chelsea vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 27th December 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Project Chelsea was going swimmingly well for new manager Graham Potter in his first month and that included qualifying them for the knock out stages of the Champions League but the honeymoon period is clearly over and the club have lost their last 3 games. Indeed they have picked up just 2 points from their last 15 and this isn’t what the new owners would have been expecting. As a result the Blues have fallen down to 8th place and are 8 points from a top four finish although they do have a game in hand over Tottenham.

So is this panic time? Not quite yet but if the Blues have a poor Christmas period and January there will be a lot of pressure on Potter who was tipped to be the right manager for the club. Their last game finished in a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle and what has also been worrying is that they have found the net just twice in their last five games.

Bournemouth are down in 14th place with 16 points and just three points above the relegation zone. They were on a poor run of four games lost in a row but just before the break they beat Everton 3-0. However it looks clear that the club could well struggle this season unless they find some consistency. Away from home Bournemouth have won just one game and they have lost their last two coming against Leeds and West Ham and they have conceded six goals in their last two games.

Team News:

Chelsea: Wesley Fofana is out for at least two weeks due to a knee injury, N’Golo Kante is still out with his hamstring and is not due back for another six weeks. Kepa has a foot injury and will be assessed. Mateo Kovacic will miss this game due to returning late from the World Cup it is the same reason for Hakim Ziyech. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is out with a calf injury. Ben Chilwell and Armando Broja are out long term.

Bournemouth: David Brooks is a major doubt to return from a hamstring injury. Lloyd Kelly will be assessed due to fitness issues. Muara Neto is a doubt also with a hamstring injury. Ben Pearson is ill and will be assessed it is the same situation with Joe Rothwell. Marcus Tavernier has a knock and is only 50/50 to play here.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season Chelsea lost this fixture 1-0.

It’s been 4 games since Chelsea beat Bournemouth.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth Prediction:

There’s no real pressure on Bournemouth here although they will obviously want to avoid a heavy defeat and despite Chelsea having some absences they have the quality to beat many teams in the league by a few goals. Alas form hasn’t been good and that is why there will be much more attention on them and Potter.

Lately the Cherries have got some positive results over Chelsea and remained unbeaten against them last season. This is going to be a difficult game for them though and we do expect a home win for the London side. The problem is the price being offered at 1.30 so let’s look into different markets. We will back Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang to score and in fact this is an important second half of the season for the forward, despite his obvious qualities some question marks remain to see if he can rekindle his best form shown when playing for Arsenal. The bottom line here though is that Chelsea should have too much firepower and quality for this Bournemouth side.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth Betting Tips:
