England Premier League
Saturday 21st October 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
We will be in for a game to remember here as Chelsea need to prove a point against one of the better sides in the Premier League, Arsenal will still be riding high from beating Manchester City. Of course there is the old Mauricio Pochettino connection as the former Tottenham manager comes up against his old side, so let’s get this on!
Chelsea have improved but have started the season poorly and have already lost too many games at home. It’s incredible that Chelsea have lost 50% of their games already losing at home to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa but this is something that the club will want to put behind them. The Blues have won their last two games in a row. That's the good news and both games were away from home as they cruised past Fulham and Burnley and scored 6 goals in those games.
Arsenal alongside Tottenham remain unbeaten and are in 2nd place with 20 points the same as Tottenham with only goal difference separating the sides. The Gunners of course edged past Manchester City 1-0 in their last game but it was an important win and their first in 12 over City. Their last away game finished in an emphatic 4-0 victory over Bournemouth but this should be a sterner test. With Tottenham not playing until Monday though, victory here would take Mikel Arteta’s side to the top of the league.
Team News:
Chelsea: Armando Broja has a chance to return from a knock, Trevoh Chabolah has taken a setback and looks set to miss out due to his hamstring. Ben Chilwell is still out with his hamstring. Alex Disasi is a doubt with his hamstring and will be assessed. Nicolas Jackson has picked up a wrist injury but is expected to make this game, Cole Palmer has a dead leg but hasn’t been ruled out. Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined.
Arsenal: Bukayo Saka is being tipped to return for this game following his hamstring injury. William Saliba will be assessed following his toe injury. Leandro Trossard will be assessed due to a hamstring injury but it isn’t thought to be serious.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Arsenal won this fixture 1-0.
Arsenal have won the last three meetings against Chelsea.
It’s been 5 years since Chelsea beat Arsenal at home.
There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Prediction:
This game will tell us if Chelsea have turned a corner because they have lost too many games at home already and of course Arsenal will be no easy game. Arsenal are on a high and they also have a fantastic recent record over Chelsea, so what will give? We will need to see more mature performances from Chelsea and they have hinted at that in recent weeks but then the international break came, not the best timing for the club.
A draw seems like it could happen between these two but Arsenal look the stronger of the sides. This is a derby of course and it will be intense but all of the experience is coming from Arsenal, and we expect the Gunners to pass this test. Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah have had much joy over Chelsea and they could both be work backing at the weekend. Chelsea will hold their own but when it matters we think Arsenal will get the run of the luck and their players simply have more Premier League experience in these types of crunch moments. It will certainly be a game not to be missed.
