England Premier League
Tuesday 21st January 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Match Preview:
The bad news for Chelsea this past weekend was that they lost to a last minute goal up at Newcastle. The good news is that Manchester United, their nearest rival for 5th lost also and as a result they still have a 5 point cushion with another game being chalked off the board.
Chelsea are making it hard for themselves and if their home form had been slightly better they could easily have been 10 or more points ahead of United by now. Instead 4th remains in the balance and the Blues actually have a better away record than at Stamford Bridge.
Form has been very erratic with two losses, two wins and a draw in their last five games. Chelsea’s last home game was a good one though, which finished in a 3-0 win over Burnley. The club remains 6 points behind Leicester in 2nd.
This has been Arsenal’s worst season in a generation and no one has really got used to seeing the club down in 10th place and 10 points behind their hosts.
Mikel Arteta has won just 1 game from his five in charge, although has also lost just one game. So 60% of his games have ended in draws. The big worry is that yet again the club were pegged back from a lead. The latest game was against Sheffield United at home where they looked like they were heading for a win, but it ended 1-1.
The Gunners have drawn nearly 60% of their games on the road and won just twice though they are unbeaten away from home in their last five.
Team News:
Chelsea: The only new concern for the Blues is Reece James who has a slight knock and could well recover for this game
Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is serving the 2nd game of his suspension after his red card against Crystal Palace. Reiss Nelson is out with a hamstring injury and will miss the rest of the month. Sokratis missed the game through illness and will be assessed
Chelsea vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 3-2.
Arsenal have not won away to Chelsea since 2011 in the league.
There is a 60% chance to see just one team score.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Prediction:
This is a weak Arsenal side and manager Mikel Arteta needs a summer window and some time to get his philosphy into the side. But we did see shades of that against Manchester United, a team who can be considered a top six side. Arsenal raised their game and they will have to again in this match. This is a match against a direct top 4 rival and if Arsenal win not only do they bring themselves into the fight but they will also let other clubs in between them bunch up, in other words Chelsea would suddenly be under huge pressure. Man on man, Chelsea have the better side, but when the club have been tested at home, they have failed on numerous occasions and all this makes picking a winner very unpredictable. We feel this game will have goals, and therefore it's safer to stick to the goals markets. We see both teams getting on the scoresheet, and over 2.5 goals should also be achievable.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Betting Tips:
Both teams to score (Yes) at 1.61
Over 2.5 total goals at 1.66
