Chelsea vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 6th November 2022
Kick off at 12noon GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

With Arsenal emerging as a title challenger this London derby has added spice to it and Chelsea will want to bring down the Gunners a peg or two when the teams clash on Sunday. We say clash in the literal sense as this could be a ‘heated’ game so to speak.

First up Chelsea will still be wounded from last weekend as they lost their first game under Graham Potter losing 4-1 away to Brighton. They did bounce back in midweek in the Champions League but the Blues had qualified for the knock out round anyway. This game is back to business for Potter’s side. There is perhaps a worrying form growing at the club where they have no wins in their last 3 and it’s been almost a month since their last victory which came against Aston Villa. All of this has an effect and the Blues are down to 6th place and 10 points behind Arsenal. Still a top 4 finish will be the target for Potter in his first season and that is currently only a 3 point gap. At home the Blues are undefeated and their last game here finished 1-1 against Manchester United.

Arsenal come into this weekend in 1st place but by the time this game kicks off they could be in 2nd if Mancheser City have won on Saturday. If so the Gunners would need to win here to reclaim that position back, a draw wouldn’t be good enough because of the goal difference. Mikel Arteta’s side had zero problems last weekend as they trounced Nottingham Forest 5-0 and listen up because the Gunners currently have the best away record in the league too with 13 points from a possible 18. However two points were dropped in their last away game as they drew 1-1 with Southampton.

Team News:

Chelsea: Ben Chilwell misses out with a hamstring injury, Kepa has been ruled out for seven weeks with a foot injury. N’Golo Kante, Reece James and Wesley Fofana are all out until after the World Cup.

Arsenal: Takehiro Tomiyasu has a muscle injury and is only 50/50 make this game. Matt Turner will be assessed after a groin injury, Emile Smith-Rowe is out until after the World Cup with a groin injury.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Chelsea vs Arsenal Prediction:

Chelsea have been overall getting good results but recent form in the league has been nothing to write home about. They are just off the pace in regards to the league but remain a solid outfit and a dangerous one on their day. At home the fans will expect a good result against the old enemy and in that regard there will be more pressure on the Blues to get the result. Arsenal are simply looking good, though it is true they haven’t quite performed to the standards away from home, but they cannot have any criticism’s either, they would still rank in first place. They have a great recent record over Chelsea and while on paper there isn’t much between the sides Arsenal look the stronger for now. Arteta has his feet under the table, Potter is obviously new and been thrown into the deep end, he will have plenty of highs and lows yet.

Of course let’s not forget about Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang who will be determined to have a good game against his former side and there is no love lost between himself and Arteta. But the pace and quality of this Arsenal side is electric and they will pose many problems for Chelsea. The Blues on their day can win this game but as we’ve pointed out form isn’t the best, this could be a close one and we expect many yellow cards to be issued but we will opt for an away victory in the end.
