Cardiff vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 22nd February 2019
Kick off at 7.45pm GMT
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium

Match Preview:

At the beginning of the season we were promised more Friday night games in the Premier League. Interestingly enough this hasn’t up until now materialised enough to make it normal viewing, but this week we will have two matches to look forward too. The first will be between Cardiff and Watford.

Neil Warnock’s side have improved in recent weeks and have won their last two games, however the club are still in 17th place and just one point from the drop. The good news is that there is a strong team spirit within the camp, mostly due to the terrible news about Emiliano Sala and the players, coaching staff, and fans have really come together and it has shown on the pitch.

The club have beaten Southampton and Bournemouth and in each game they have been able to score at least 2 goals. The signs are encouraging.

Watford have 37 points and are in 8th place and are having a very solid season. They have lost 1 game in their last five but have drawn some games too which has stopped them from claiming 7th place.

The Hornets can still be unpredictable, last week they were solid in beating Everton but they have also failed to beat Brighton and Burnley when at home. Away from home their record is decent but it is worth remembering their recent record and they have won just 1 game in their past four.

Team News:

Cardiff: Ashley Richards is still out with a lack of match fitness though me might be assessed for this game

Watford: Jose Holebas is suspended after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season. Robert Pereyra remains at 50/50 to feature

Cardiff vs Watford Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was in 2015 when Cardiff won 2-1.

There have been 14 goals in the teams previous 3 meetings.

Cardiff vs Watford Prediction:

Cardiff are on a roll but Watford won’t lie down. What has been positive about the home side is that they are scoring goals and have the motivation to move away from the bottom three. With Watford there motivation is 7th place and they are safe this season. We only see the best of the team when they have something to prove, what do they have to prove away to Cardiff? Watford also have an awful record at this stadium with just 1 win here since 2007. It might be a close game but we will be backing the home side to get something from this game.
