England Premier League
Saturday 22nd December 2018
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
Match Preview:
What a week it has been at Manchester United with Jose Mourinho being sacked after a lacklustre start to the campaign and reported internal wars between players. Though Mourinho brought trophies to the team it was felt that in the end his relationship with staff had become toxic, and once again the special one is looking for a new job.
Step in one Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a Manchester United legend and it is ironic that the Norwegian who will stay on at least until the end of the season is making his own personal ‘super sub’ appearance now as manager like he did as a player.
Solskjaer is seen as the perfecr replacement for Mourinho, not because he is on par as a coach but because he is the opposite in player relations, the club need to stablise and he should be able to steer the boat to safe waters, or so it is hoped…. What is also ironic is that the last time Solskjaer managed in England he was in charge of Cardiff and that is who United will play in his first game.
As for the Red Devils form they would be in 11th place, they are currently in 6th place but the problem is clearly evident when we see that Arsenal who are in 5th are 8 points in front.
Cardiff have lost 11 games this season already and even though they are not in the bottom three that is relegation material right there. They have been utterly inconsistent in the league with a win one week and a loss the next. At home there are good encouraging signs with Neil Warnock’s team winning their last 3 games in a row. This though is an entirely different test.
Team News:
Cardiff: Joe Bennett is out with a knock, Greg Cunningham has the same problem and his return keeps getting delayed. Ashley Richards could return after a lack of match fitness. Daniel Ward is 50/50 to feature in the squad after his knock
Manchester United: Romelu Lukaku is not available, and is taking compassionate leave, he could miss the entire Christmas period of games. Scott McTominay has a knock and could struggle to be fit but has not been ruled out. Marcos Rojo also has a slight knock and is 50/50. Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling also have knocks but are expected to feature. Alexis Sanchez is out for another 3 weeks at least with his hamstring
