Burnley vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

The excitement keeps building at which team will be relegated this season from the Premier League. One more place looks up for grabs for no team that want it as both Norwich and Watford look down. So it comes down to Burnley and Everton and it would be an historic moment in football if Burnley were able to stay up at the expense of Everton who have not been relegated from the top flight in over 70 years.

Burnley could take a huge step towards safety with victory here and would dump Everton into the bottom three if they win here and Everton lose the Merseyside derby against Liverpool. It’s just one loss from the last four games for Burnley and the omens are looking good for the club even though off the pitch there has been a lot of news generated by the sacking of Sean Dyche and Mike Jackson has been drafted in as interim manager. The recent victory over Everton could well be a huge one against their direct rival. It’s also two games without defeat after they drew 1-1 at West Ham and in midweek beat Southampton 2-0.

Burnley will be happy that they stay at home for this game although it is just four wins in front of their home fans this season as the club look to finish the season in style.

Wolves are in 8th place and considering that they have had a new manager this season in Bruno Lage they have had a terrific season. The club has a genuine chance of European football next season and are only 3 points from that objective and have a game in hand over West Ham who are currently in 7th position.

Wolves’ form has been mixed with 3 wins from their last five games however they have lost 2 from their last three. In midweek they lost 1-0 away to Newcastle and their away form overall has been decent with 50% of their games ending in wins. However recent away form is poor with 3 defeats from their last four.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Westwood has a leg injury with no specified return date. There are no other new injuries for the club but long term ones include Erik Pieters, Ben Mee and Gundmundsson.

Wolves: Ki-Jana Hoever could return from a hamstring injury, Ruben Neves is out for another two weeks at least with a knee injury.

Burnley vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Burnley won this fixture 2-1.

Burnley have remained undefeated against Wolves for the six meetings and it is nearly 4 years since Wolves were able to beat them.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Wolves Prediction:

This could be one of the more interesting Premier League games this weekend as both teams have something to play for. Burnley’s objective has to be to win the home games at least and they have been successful at that lately as they go for their 3rd home win in a row.

Wolves could lose pace with West Ham so they need to pick up points here but their form hasn’t been the greatest and they have a poor record playing Burnley of late. Despite the difference in positions there isn’t anything in this tie and the teams seem very equal coming into this one. Burnley need to be focused and use some history between the clubs and try to see this one through. Beating Southampton was very important for them as their rivals Everton dropped points at home so for Burnley it is onwards and upwards as they try to escape relegation.
