Burnley vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 21st December 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley come into this Monday evening game in 18th place but there have been plenty of encouraging sides from the club in recent weeks and they are undefeated in their last three outings.

In midweek they went to Aston Villa, a difficult ground and drew 0-0 and previously they beat Arsenal so Sean Dyche’s team will be in an upbeat mood for the visit of Wolves. A win would take the club up to 16th place and on the tail of Arsenal.

Burnley have the 2nd to worst home record with just one victory and 3 defeats from the 5 played here. They have only been able to score 2 goals at home so far, however they have gone their last 2 matches undefeated.

Wolves pulled off a terrific result to beat Chelsea in their last game as they came back from a goal down to win 2-1. Pedro Neto broke the Blues hearts as he scored the winner in the 95th minute. This result just underlined how dangerous Wolves can be and they would be a top 3 team with just some more consistency.

Instead Wolves are in 10th place though a win could put them in 8th depending on how the Chelsea and West Ham game turns out. From their last four, Wolves have won 2 and lost 2, and with 11 points earned at home they just marginally have a better record. On the road Wolves are a dictionary meaning for inconsistency a win follows a loss and if the pattern continues then it’s good news, Wolves are due the win. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have not drawn on the road as yet and have a 50% win rate.

Team News:

Burnley: Jack Cork won’t be back until the New Year because of some fitness issues. Dale Stephens has the same problem but is expected back during the Christmas period.

Wolves: Willy Boly is a doubt with a leg injury, although the club are hopeful that he will recover, he will face a late assessment. Leander Dendoncker has a knock and will also be assessed. Raul Jimenez is out long term with a head injury.

Burnley vs Wolves Prediction:

Wolves have the better team but we must remember they have lost 50% of their games on the road. Two of those have been against Liverpool and Leicester and perhaps losing to West Ham was the surprise defeat especially as it ended 4-0.

Burnley should be aware that they have a fairly decent record over Wolves at home even if a lot of those games have been close and some have ended in draws. There have also been a lot of encouraging signs from Burnley, and the objective will be to put a good run of games together and especially pick up points at home.

There are some games in the Premier League this season, mostly without fans that have gone very left field and not been easy to predict, and this is one of them. For small stakes backing the home team is not a bad choice even if Wolves possess a lot of quality. Robbie Brady in midfield has played out of his skin the last few games for the home side and he might be worth backing to score anytime, he will be very good value.
