Burnley vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 15th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Big game for Burnley who still have a chance to make Europe and in the process hurt a direct rival. The fact that we are talking about Burnley having a chance to qualify for the Europa League is testament to the job that Sean Dyche has done at the club.

Recent form has been good for Burnley who have beaten the likes of Watford, Crystal Palace and West Ham, and at home whilst they have lost six games they have won 8. The problem with them is they draw so very few at home just 3 so far, so they either win or lose and that is a key reason why they have lost a few at their own stadium. Their not scoring many goals at home but at the end of the day if you can win 1-0 that’s still 3 points of course.

Wolves clearly need to push on if they want to stake a claim in next seasons Champions League, Chelsea, Leicester, and Man Utd have all slipped up in their last games, which has allowed Wolves to close the gap a little. They have done well in Europe when they have had the chance and they will want to taste those midweek nights once again.

Losing a few since the restart hasn’t been ideal for Wolves especially given how they started back in June, very solid and very professional and these last few games are about just getting the job done. On the road Wolves have the 5th best record in the league which may come as a surprise to some. They have won 27 points from a possible 51 and whilst they are not scoring many goals they have only conceded 18 on their away travels which is fairly impressive.

Team News:

Burnley: Burnley still have numerous injury concerns. Ben Mee, Jack Cork, Matthew Lowton and Ashley Barnes are all unlikely to play.

Wolves: Forward Pedro Neto is the only doubt for Wolves.

Burnley vs Wolves Head to Head:

Earlier in the season the teams played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

Last season Burnley won this fixture 2-0.

Wolves have not won at Burnley since 2010.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Wolves Prediction:

So this should be a close game as both teams have different European motivations. It might be a bit tense and history tells us that there are few goals in this game. This could well play out the same way and perhaps we should be looking into the under 2.5 goal market with such a strike rate.

Wolves have a poor record coming here although it should be noted even though they have no wins here in 10 years they have played each other at this stadium just four times. The wider picture is that in the last 7 meetings Wolves have just one victory which doesn’t bode very well for this game, however almost half of those meetings have also ended in draws. That's why we will back the home side to win or draw this game.
