Burnley vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

It’s not been a good start for Burnley but it hasn’t been an easy one either having to face the champions Manchester City followed up by Aston Villa and they have played a game less than almost everyone else. However because of the way the fixtures have fallen this will be the clubs 3rd game of the season and the 3rd at home. Lose this and perhaps there will be some genuine concerns. We have seen time and again that newly promoted sides survive their first season back in the top flight based on their home form. Let’s be honest though Vincent Kompany’s team have another tough fixture as they go up against Tottenham.

Tottenham were dealt a blow in midweek as they went out of the EFL Cup early on after drawing 1-1 with Fulham, the club then lost the penalty shoot out. It is a big blow to a club who have no trophies in 16 years. In the league they have started in solid fashion considering they lost Harry Kane and come into this game in 3rd place with seven points and are unbeaten. Results have included a 2-2 away draw to Brentford, a fantastic 2-0 win over Manchester United and a 2-0 win away to Bournemouth. Take the cup exit out of the way and this has been a positive start for the north Londoners, is that all set to change at the weekend though?

Team News:

Burnley: Aaron Ramsey has a knock and will need to be assessed, Jordan Beyer is out with a knock and not due back for at least two weeks. Hjalmar Ekdal is out with a knee injury. Michael Obafemi is out with his hamstring, Vitinho could be assessed following his knee injury and Anass Zarouy isn’t back for almost three weeks due to suspension.

Tottenham: Richarlison will be assessed following a knock. Ryan Sessegnon, Bryan Gil and Rodrigo Bentancur remain sidelined.

Burnley vs Tottenham Head to Head:

The clubs last met here in 2022 and Burnley won 1-0.

Tottenham have won 5 of the last seven meetings.

The last 3 meetings have seen under 1.5 goals.

The last five meetings have only seen one team to score.

Burnley vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham are trying to forge ahead even though some have questioned the present time as being one of transition. But the club are doing well in the league and recorded a professional and solid away win against Bournemouth in their last league game. Away days will be questioned for Tottenham and there will still be mounting worries that they are going to eventually miss the goals of Harry Kane. However one game at a time and while the club did receive a setback by going out of the EFL Cup the actual away game ended in a draw- simply put it is early days but Tottenham are not losing games.

It is easy to fear for Burnley who at this moment look like they are out of their depth. They do have quality players and they will fight for everything but one feels that they will need to meet a Tottenham side who are not on their game to have a chance to win here. We will back Tottenham to march on, but of course there is a risk to this going with history. But at the same time Tottenham look a pretty solid unit whose form is right now so it makes sense to stick with them.
