Burnley vs Sheffield Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 29th December 2020
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley’s 4 game unbeaten run ended at the weekend as they lost against Leeds in a narrow 1-0 defeat. It means the club are in 17th place but they will be facing the bottom club in midweek and surely being at home will be very confident of winning the game.

Burnley felt that they were hard done by at Leeds and that the home side received favourable refereeing decisions and that coupled with the fact that Sean Dyche’s team had 14 attempts on goal leads one to believe that at the very least Burnley were unlucky not to come away from Elland Road with something. Overall form is good for the club which is encouraging despite their current position.

At home Burnley have managed to go their last 3 games undefeated with their last home match ending in a 2-1 win over Wolves.

Sheffield United are still waiting for their first win of the season. At the weekend it looked like they would claim a 0-0 draw against Everton but Everton scored in the final ten minutes to condemn the Blades to their 13th defeat of the season. With just 2 points thus far Chris Wilder’s side are 11 points from safety. True there is still time but one has to believe that if the club have not improved their points gap in the next month then surely there is no way back from this.

Not surprisingly Sheffield United has the worst away record with six defeats from seven games played. Though they did draw their last away match against Brighton in a game that ended 1-1.

Team News:

Burnley: Robert Brady is being pencilled in to return for this match after his hamstring but will face a late test. Dwight McNeil could return after his groin injury as could Matej Vydra with a back problem

Sheffield United: John Lundstram is suspended. Olivier McBurnie will be assessed after his recent knock. Kean Bryan is out for 2-3 weeks with his calf injury and Sander Berge will miss the next 3-4 months estimated with his hamstring. Oliver Burke has a back spasm and will be assessed ahead of the game

Burnley vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

Sheffield United have not won at Burnley since 2008.

5 of the last 8 league games have ended in over 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

We expect a home victory. Let’s analyse the situation. For Burnley they will feel aggrieved that despite so many chances on goal vs Leeds they failed to score. But they have the luck to play so soon after that game and make amends. They are at home and have good form here and their opponents have not won here in 12 years and of course are the poorest side in the league.

Burnley should start aggressive and have lots of the ball and we are risking that they will play with this attitude and be like a wounded animal against the Blades. It could draw the away side into the game too, so there might even be more goals than expected but that looks a riskier bet, but Burnley should have too much in their armour for this weak Sheffield United side.
