Burnley vs Sheffield Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd December 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

This is a huge game in the Premier League this weekend and a real ‘six pointer’ as two sides who have struggled this season have a chance to receive a major boost. The fact that Everton have been punished and docked 10 points puts the Toffees right in the mix in the bottom three but it has given some confidence to the previous bottom three clubs, that was witnessed last weekend as Luton won and went five points clear of 18th. This weekend will see 18th against bottom place and there is a real chance that one of these results could mean Everton finish this weekend in last place!

Burnley are bottom with only 4 points earned from 13 games and just one win so far that victory actually came away from home and they are yet to win in front of their home fans. It is seven games played and 7 defeats too, 5 goals scored and 20 shipped. With zero points it is no surprise that the Clarets have the worst home record in the league. Despite such a poor start a win could well take them into 18th place and only two points shy of safety.

Sheffield United have just a point more than their hosts and are in 18th place. Even with a win they would stay in the bottom three but could well make ground on Luton. Last weekend was disappointing for the Blades as they lost 3-1 against Bournemouth and that ended a short but hopeful two game unbeaten run. They had recently beaten Wolves and drew 1-1 away to Brighton in an impressive result.

Team News:

Burnley: Jack Cork has a knock and is expected to miss out. Benson Manuel will be assessed but came into this week with a lack of match fitness. Lyle Foster and Arijanet Muric are expected to miss out through illness.

Sheffield United: There are no new injuries for the Blades but the injury list remains the same with Chris Basham, Rhian Brewster, Tom Davies, John Egan, Daniel Jebbison and Rhys Norrington-Davies all missing.

Burnley vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

Last season the clubs met in the Championship and in this fixture Burnley won 2-0.

Sheffield United haven’t won here in 15 years.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

So presented to us is the team with the worst home record against the side with the worst away record, does a 0-0 result seem to be the way to go? Whilst this is a situation which could well see both teams be happy to take a point, this is one where they need to take full advantage. Luton are hurrying away, Everton are down there so this is when teams like Burnley and Sheffield United really need to perk up their ideas. Both clubs despite consistent poor results have at times played good football believe it or not, and they will need to present that on the pitch at the weekend.

Sheffield United have a poor recent record here but Burnley haven’t shown us enough since the beginning of the season and the Blades have played the better football, though an away game will not be easy. There is good value however on the Blades who are a great price and we can’t seem to fathom why this is as these two teams are very equal. Therefore we will back the away team to get at least a draw.
