England Premier League
Monday 26th November 2018
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley have simply not got going this season after their heroics in the last and they come into this game in 17th place. They have earned just 2 points from their last 15 available and scored just 3 goals in the past 7 weeks.
Sean Dyche’s side have not tasted victory since the end of September where they recorded what seemed at the time an impressive 2-1 victory away to Cardiff. But since that win a recovery was just a false one and the team are now being labelled amongst relegation possibilities. This is a nightmare scenario for Dyche who oversaw Burnley reaching the Europa League qualifiers just this summer.
Burnley’s last game ended 0-0 away to Leicester and that was just the clubs 5th point away this season. However they have actually earned more on the road than at home and at Turf Moor they have lost 3 from their 5 games played with their last game here ending in a 4-0 loss to Chelsea.
Newcastle have had their own troubles this season and Rafa Benitez’s men are only ahead of their hosts on goal difference so this will only add to the spice of this Monday night game.
The Magpies though have at least been on form having gone their last 3 games unbeaten, indeed this period has been their best of the season and has included wins over Watford and Bournemouth and draw against Southampton.
However their best form has come before the international break of course. Away form is poor with no wins on the road thus far and the Magpies have scored just 3 goals, only Cardiff with 2 have less in the Premier League.
Team News:
Burnley: Steven Defour is expected to return to the line up after his knee injury. Ben Gibson is set to miss this game through a lack of match fitness. Gudmunsson is expected to be fit for this game after his calf injury in the teams last game against Leicester. James Torowski is out until at least the beginning of December with a hernia problem
Newcastle: Jamaal Lascelles should be back in the squad but most probably will not start the game after being out for several weeks with a shoulder injury. Jonjo Shelvey could also be included in the squad after appearing to recover from his muscle injury
