Burnley vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 14th December 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley are down in 13th place after hitting bad form and losing their last 3 games in a row. Two of those games could probably be excused having to face Manchester City and Tottenham but it was the way that Sean Dyche’s side fell to Tottenham that could leave the club wounded, losing 5-0. Still, they were not without their chances and they will feel returning home to play Newcastle provides a chance to get back on the winning trail once again.

Home form has not been good though, and from 8 games they have won 4 and lost 4 with no draws as yet. The only other team not to have drawn at home in the league is Liverpool. Recent home form has not been good for the club either, with 3 defeats from their last four matches.

Newcastle are propping up the table well and whisper it, Steve Bruce is doing a better job than Rafa Benitez. The Magpies are now in 11th place and have won their last 2 games and gone 3 unbeaten. Their latest victory was against Southampton in which they won 2-1. A win here would shoot the club into the top half of the table.

Away form for Newcastle is not great with 5 losses from 8 and only 9 points earned from a possible 24. Although the club have won 2 from their last 3 away games including their last match on the road where they beat Sheffield United 2-0.

Team News:

Burnley: Phillip Bardsley is trying to recover from a knock. Ashley Barnes will face a late test for his groin. Kevin Long is 50/50 due to his hip injury. Charlie Taylor looks a major doubt with his ongoing hamstring injury

Newcastle: Ciaran Clark has a calf injury but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Allan Saint-Maximin looks like he will miss the rest of 2019 with a hamstring injury

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle have the better form and therefore the better confidence coming into this game but these two teams will still be very much equal at the weekend. Burnley are a good team and need to get back to winning ways and the question is how long can Newcastle’s decent form keep up? Because of this we will opt for some different goal markets and look into the likely goalscorers who are on form. Both teams to score looks likely, because they are of equal quality and it has happened in two of the last three meetings played, and Jonjo Shelvey's form can't be ignored at odds of 4.00.

Burnley vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.90

Anytime goalscorer: Jonjo Shelvey at 4.00
