Burnley vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 8th February 2022
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley are bottom of the league and even though they are just 3 points from safety they will be the favourites to be relegated this season. But under Sean Dyche there is little doubts that the club will fight for every point and that has been evidenced in their last two games. In them Burnley have avoided defeat, drew impressively away to Arsenal and at the weekend were able to claim another point at home to Watford.

Burnley are not playing the best football but if they avoid defeats that has to be a good marker for them and indeed the majority of their results have ended in draws with 10 from 19 games played. The fact that they have played 19 games is also significant given their direct rivals above them have played two games more.

Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup against Middlesbrough at the weekend after they lost a penalty shoot out and that adds to the clubs misery this season. The cup exit confirmed for many that United will end the season without silverware because nobody is expecting them to win the Champions League. The worry for the club is that under Ralf Rangnick they do not look like a stable side but at the same time they are getting some good results and have climbed to 4th place after winning their last two. Their latest league victory was a huge one as they beat a top 4 rival in West Ham although it was only down to a very last minute Marcus Rashford goal.

On the road United have the sixth best record winning 5 of their 11 games so far but they are unbeaten for the past 3 months. This remains an important game for the club who could move within six points of Chelsea and still have a game in hand over the Blues with victory.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes has finally recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and indications are that the player is struggling for this game. Gundmundsson is out for possibly the rest of the month after being ill. Charlie Taylor is 50/50 to return from a foot injury. Matej Vydra is out with his hernia.

Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes has a knock but is expected to be ready for this game. Eric Bailly will be assessed after his recent ankle injury. Victor Lindelof could return from illness. Jadon Sancho has fatigue but is being tipped to be ready for this game.

Burnley vs Man Utd Prediction:

We need to speak about Mason Greenwood because he isn’t a fringe player at Manchester United but a very good one and a huge prospect for the future. But without going into too many details he has been suspended by the club and there is a real possibility he will never play for United again and indeed his football career could well be over at 20. We speak about him because we don’t believe manager Ralf Rangnick who suggested that his players were not affected by the story surrounding Greenwood and were training well. Maybe the club have been training well but of course having a player who starts game suddenly not being there would have affected the team.

United will start as odds on favourites but they have been poor to average when being expected to beat teams. One could believe in the wounded animal theory and that they will come out all guns blazing after their FA Cup exit but United very rarely put on goal fest shows anymore, however we do still expect them to claim all 3 points. We will also keep an eye on Cristiano Ronaldo who is struggling for goals in the past two months and he will fancy his chances to score against the 20th placed side in the league.
