Burnley vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd February 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley lost their 10th game of the season at the weekend as they went down 2-0 away to Chelsea, which in all fairness was not a surprise result. Now Sean Dyche’s team are at home but have an even tougher fixture to navigate and will be the underdogs once more.

Because of their back to back wins over Liverpool and Aston Villa, Burnley have given themselves a chance for survival and have pulled 8 points clear of the bottom three but they will be the first to understand they are not out of the woods just yet.

A shock win could see the club move up a couple of places, and at home Burnley have won 3 from the last four games beating Villa, Sheffield United and Wolves. Overall they have won 4 home games but 3 of those have occurred in the last five weeks so they have significantly improved.

Manchester City have won 8 consecutive games and reminded everyone in the Premier League what they can do. As a result City are top of the league by 3 points over Manchester United and have a game in hand. City’s last game underlined how hard and competitive the Premier League is as they only beat Sheffield United 1-0 at home.

City look like favourites to win the title and they come into this game having won their last 3 away matches. City’s last trip ended in a 5-0 demolition of West Bromwich Albion and with six goals conceded on the road all season that is the least shipped of any team.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes remains 50/50 after a recent knock has left him out of the last few games and he will be assessed. Josh Brownhill will face a test on his foot injury. Chris Wood has a hamstring injury but it could be minor, still he is a doubt for this encounter.

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero is being tipped to feature in this game after recovering from Covid-19. Nathan Ake is out for unknown reasons Kevin De Bruyne is out long term with his hamstring.

Burnley vs Man City Head to Head:

Manchester City have scored 10 goals against Burnley in the last two meetings.

Manchester City have won the last 5 league meetings in a row.

Burnley have not beaten Manchester City in the league since 2015, and from the last 13 games it is their only win.

Burnley vs Man City Prediction:

Burnley have already created a shock a few weeks ago when they beat Liverpool away from home and whilst they will most probably lose this game we shouldn’t completely discount them.

However it’s very hard to go against Manchester City who could welcome back Sergio Aguero and the club just look to have clicked at the right time. After this game they will face Liverpool so they know there is no guarantees of 3 points in that game which puts even more emphasis on getting a win in midweek.

Manchester City are huge odds on so it’s difficult to back them, therefore it might be better then to concentrate on the goals market for this game. Riyad Mahrez has scored 5 goals against Burnley in the last 2 league meetings and we will back him to score again.

Burnley vs Man City Betting Tips:

Over 2.5 goals at 1.66

Anytime goalscorer: Riyad Mahez at 2.50
