England Premier League
Saturday 2nd April 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley are trying to survive in the Premier League and Manchester City are trying to win it so this game is nicely set up and despite the obvious gulf in quality between the two sides we should be entertained to an enthralling game.
By the time this match kicks off Liverpool could be in 1st place as they play earlier in the day and will be expected to beat Watford. If this is the case the pressure will be on Manchester City who would come into this game 2 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Talking of pressure, that will be piling on Sean Dyche whose Burnley side come into this game in 19th place and are 4 points from safety. If they lose here and Everton were to beat West Ham on the Sunday then the signs would be very bleak for the club. Form is poor for Burnley who have lost their last 3 games losing against Leicester, Chelsea and Brentford and we would have to go back to the end of February for the last time they scored a goal. At home Dyche’s side have drawn six games and won just two so far, losing their last two.
Is this starting to feel like 2020 all over again for Manchester City who six weeks ago looked to be cruising to a league title. Now they have Liverpool to contend with and a real threat to winning back to back leagues. City have won 10 points from their last 15 which is great for most clubs not so for Pep Guardiola’s side and they have let in Liverpool in the past month as they lost at home to Tottenham and then in their last game drew with Crystal Palace. Coming into this weekend City have a 1 point advantage over Liverpool but as mentioned before they could be trailing the Reds when they kick off for this game.
City will be the odds on favourites to win but the club have dropped points on the road in their last four games with draws against Palace and also Southampton however the club has the best away record in the league with just 1 defeat so far and with 8 goals conceded have the best defence away from home.
Team News:
Burnley: Nathan Collins is missing through suspension after his red card just before the international break. Matej Vydra has recovered from his arm injury but it is unsure if he will make an immediate comeback. There are long term injuries for Erik Pieters (knee), Ben Mee (leg) and Gundmundsson (calf).
Manchester City: Ruben Dias could be assessed after his hamstring injury but is likely to miss out and has been pencilled in to return next week. Cole Palmer has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed and is 50/50 to return for this game.
Burnley vs Man City Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 2-0.
Manchester City have won the last 9 meetings in a row against Burnley and are unbeaten in the last 14 games.
From the last 9 meetings Manchester City have been able to win 5-0 on four separate occasions.
Burnley vs Man City Prediction:
Burnley have proved on numerous occasions that they can hold their own against the much better teams and for much of this year they have been able to make life very difficult for clubs who have been clearly technically better. However there has been no doubt that some of that fire and never give up mentality has suffered in recent weeks. Perhaps though the international break came at the right time for the club.
As for Manchester City this should be a fairly straight forward game, but we don’t believe for one moment that it will be. The pressure will be immense on City if Liverpool have won and Burnley of course are fighting for survival. Because of this we don’t expect to see a big score and the game could well be very edgy. It is difficult to go against City with the quality they have but for value it might be better to back Burnley on the handicap.
