England Premier League
Tuesday 26th December 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
In a sense it was typical for Burnley that when they pulled off a rare win the club ahead of them Luton did the same thing. Even bottom team Sheffield United earned a point, but that won’t matter for the Clarets who of course just need to focus on themselves and start winning points.
Current form has been much more encouraging for Vincent Kompany’s side who sit in 19th place and they have won 7 points from their last 15, keep that level up and they could well escape the clutches of the bottom three. This past weekend they went to Fulham, a club who had won their previous two home games by 5-0 each and won 2-0. It was an impressive result and means that Burnley have 11 points and are just one behind Luton in 18th and 3 points behind Nottingham Forest and safety.
Liverpool drew 1-1 at home to Arsenal at the weekend to stay in 2nd place with 39 points. It’s been a disappointing moment for the Reds who have dropped 4 points at home in their last two games as they also drew 0-0 against Manchester United. These feel like lost chances for Jurgen Klopp’s side and they have to come here and win, but it may be trickier than it looks. Liverpool has the fourth best away record in the league where they have earned 16 points from a possible 27 and they have also won their last two away games in a row with victories over Crystal Palace and Sheffield United both hard fought games. With Arsenal playing two days later Liverpool has the chance to go top of the league, so what better motivation would they need?

Burnley vs Liverpool Prediction:
Of course on paper the clubs are not on the same level but Burnley are going to make this game very difficult for their opponents and there is no doubt that form and motivation has improved over the past month. We do expect Liverpool to dig deep though and find a way to win. It is true that if they score early and quick the visitors have the quality to put a big score past Burnley but we have seen this season with the exception of Newcasle’s 8-0 win over Sheffield United that scores have been fairly close when the top sides play the bottom ones and we expect to see a close game.
It was important for Mohamed Salah to score at the weekend because some time had passed since he had but he is still having a great season and has bagged 12 goals and is joint 2nd top goal scorer so far. He can continue that at the weekend. Liverpool are 1.44 to win this one, not the greatest of prices being away from home so it might be worth looking into different markets.
