England Premier League
Wednesday 19th May 2021
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley of course are safe now after a few scares this season so they can try and enjoy the visit of Liverpool in midweek.
Sean Dyche’s team come into this game in 15th place and have 39 points and they would love to reach the 40 point marker, that will be easier said than done with the opponents they will be playing. Form has been inconsistent with 3 defeats from their past five games which includes last weekend’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Leeds.
Liverpool are the big guns who saw their title as ‘champions’ taken away from them last week as Manchester City regained the Premier League. However Liverpool who have had a troubled season are one of the in form sides in the league and they will have their eye on a possible top four finish.
The Reds stunned West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, the score was close at 2-1 but the last minute winner came by way of Alisson, Liverpool’s goalkeeper in a remarkable finish to the encounter. The club have now won 3 games in a row and have 63 points and have put the pressure on Chelsea and Leicester in 3rd and 4th respectively. In a way it would be quite a remarkable comeback of their own to finish in the top four after the clubs mid-season collapse and this game will go a long way in telling us if the comeback can be done.
Liverpool have won 22 points from their last 10 away games losing just twice and indeed they have won 10 times on the road so far. With 36 goals to their name only Manchester City with 38 have scored more goals away from home. So despite Jurgen Klopp’s team not being at their strongest this season there is little doubt that the club haven’t been performing well on the road.
Team News:
Burnley: Nick Pope is 50/50 because of his shoulder injury. Kevin Long and Robert Brady are now out for the season both with Achilles injuries. Phillip Bardsley is out with his hernia.
Liverpool: Diogo Jota is out with a foot injury. Jordan Henderson may return at the weekend. Naby Keita looks set to miss this one with a muscle injury, James Milner has fitness issues and is only 50/50.
Burnley vs Liverpool Head to Head:
Last season Liverpool won this fixture 3-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Burnley won 1-0.
There is a 60% chance for both teams to score.
Burnley vs Liverpool Prediction:
Liverpool will have to work for it but we expect to see a solid and professional win for the club here. The club seem to have ridden the worst of waves now and are in good form and if they stick to their plan then they simply have a better squad than their opponents.
Of course it is interesting to note that Burnley did indeed win at Anfield earlier in the season but Liverpool have moved on from then. This is a huge match for the Reds and they shouldn’t make any mistakes wrapping up the win and victory would also put paid to any faint hopes that the likes of Tottenham and West Ham have for Champions League qualification.
Whilst we like Liverpool for the win we don’t like some of the odds being quoted as low as 1.20, so this forces us to look into different markets.
