England Premier League
Saturday 3rd February 2024
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley were beaten 3-1 away to Manchester City in midweek, but that was to be expected and you get a sense that manager Vincent Kompany would have taken that result and was glad not to see his team be demolished because goal difference could well count in the end. However his side remain in 19th place and have 12 points and are seven from safety but in theory eight points because of their own goal difference. Just 1 point has been earned from the clubs last four games and that was a 1-1 draw with the team that are, for now, keeping them down, Luton. The Clarets have managed to win just three times so far and their last victory came five weeks ago when they beat Fulham 2-0 away from home and now the sides meet again.
Fulham are in 13th place and have 25 points and while it has been an unremarkable season for the Cottagers they are on course to stay up with games spare and their form has seen 4 points won from their last nine. In midweek they drew 0-0 at home to Everton and their last away game ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat against derby neighbours Chelsea. This is a season that has been stable for Marco Silva’s side but the club continues to be exposed away from home and in fact they have the second to worst record in the Premier League with just six points won from a possible 33. They have won just one away game so far which was at the beginning of the season against Everton and so have gone their last 10 games with no wins on the road. This weekend Fulham has the chance to go into 12th and past Bournemouth if results work out their way.
Team News:
Burnley: Jordan Beyer and Hannes Delcroix both have knocks and will be assessed, Nathan Redmond is out for the season with a leg injury, Charlie Taylor is only 50/50 to return following his shoulder injury.
Fulham: Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi are on international duty, Harry Wilson is not due back for at least 3 weeks with a shoulder injury. Adama Traore is expected to miss out as he recovers from his hamstring injury but could be back next week. Raul Jimenez will be assessed for a hamstring injury but is a doubt for this game. Issa Diop is also out with a hamstring injury and he has no fixed return date.
Burnley vs Fulham Head to Head:
The last time they played here was in 2021 when the game finished in a 1-1 draw.
It’s been six games since Fulham beat Burnley which was back in 2018 in a 4-2 win however they haven’t beaten them away since 1951.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals, although the last three meetings in a row have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Burnley vs Fulham Prediction:
Our choice is to back Burnley. The attitude of the players and the manager was spot on against Manchester City. They understood how difficult the game was but there were also some positives to take from it, it was a good run out for the side and manager Vincent Kompany noted that he witnessed a lot of good things in the game, and so they need to take that into this one.
History is on Burnley’s side also not only have their recorded recent solid results over Fulham but they haven’t lost in a home game for a huge amount of time against them as noted above. Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Burnley beat Fulham 2-0 and we think they are nailed on to win this one. There has to be that extra motivation too because if Everton and or Luton can get some points this weekend Burnley’s chances of staying up fall dramatically if they do not win here. Kompany will understand they have a small chance and that small chance only exists if they start picking up points at home.
