Burnley vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 26th December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley have a tough fixture on paper as they look to try and escape from the bottom three when they play Everton on Boxing Day.

Sean Dyche was livid at the officials when his side lost 3-1 against Arsenal claiming that The Gunners had wasted time and dived throughout the game, but it was always felt that Burnley were not going to get much out of an away trip to The Emirates and they must move on from that match.

Burnley have lost 4 of their last 5 games but a win here could see them climb out of the bottom three if Cardiff lose against Crystal Palace. At home Burnley have won just 2 games from 8 played but the good news at least is that they did win their last match here which came against Brighton in a 1-0 win.

Everton come here as a wounded animal after suffering a devastating 6-2 defeat against Tottenham. To rub salt into the wounds The Toffee men were at home and had been winning the game. Questions have suddenly been asked about manager Marco Silva who has done a decent job this season but that was such a heavy defeat for the club that the danger is it could linger on.

In truth Everton’s recent form has been poor so poor that it is relegation form having won just 2 points from their last 15. However we should remind ourselves that the club have had a succession of hard fixtures against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Away from home remains a worry with the club having the 5th worst record in the league and they have won just once all season on the road which came against Leicester.

Team News:

Burnley: Robert Brady should be back after his minor knock. Steven Defour is still 50/50 with the same problem and will be assessed

Everton: Andre Gomes will be assessed after his knock in the game v Tottenham but it isn’t thought to be serious. Idrissa Gueye is still out with a knock but may be assessed for this game. James McCarthy is suffering from a lack of match fitness

Burnley vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season Burnley won this fixture 2-1.

Everton have beaten Burnley just once in their last 4 meetings.

Everton have not beaten Burnley away from home since 2014.

Burnley vs Everton Prediction:

This game has changed into a match which Everton would have wanted to win to a must win now. After being crushed by Tottenham it is manager Silva’s job now to install confidence in his side and this will be one of Silva’s very big tests since taking the job to get his team back on the winning trail again. If they drop points here heads could drop given how poor Burnley have been this season. Yet on the flip side is Burnley who will feel that they can expose Everton after seeing them concede so many goals.

We will go for the Everton win but with caution and only backing minimum stakes. We feel this match could start off slow as Everton’s objective will be to gain some confidence and move the ball around, so the match could open up more in the 2nd half.
