England Premier League
Saturday 5th December 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
The Saturday lunch time kick off will see two teams who really need the points to kick start their seasons for different reasons.
For Burnley they have started the new campaign poorly and after 9 games are in 19th place with just 1 win so far. Last weekend they were hammered 5-0 at Manchester City and the 2019 champions have now scored 20 goals past Burnley in their last four games, Sean Dyche’s team will be glad to see the back of them.
Before the City loss Burnley recorded their first win of the season when they beat Crystal Palace at this stadium 1-0 and that followed a draw. There seemed to be a mini revival of some sorts for Burnley and if we can discount the City game then Burnley could be a bigger danger to Everton than first thought.
It’s unfortunate what has happened to Everton after their superb start saw them in 1st position. However the club have now dropped down to 8th place after losing 4 of their last five games. Last weekend Carlo Ancelotti’s side lost at home to Leeds 1-0 and while Leeds have been playing good football Everton should feel slightly disappointed with themselves to lose to a newly promoted side especially being at home.
With a win it’s possible that Everton could climb back into the top six so not all is lost but you get the feeling that another defeat could really start to hurt the club. Away from home Everton won their last game beating Fulham 3-2 but from their last three they have lost two. It’s as if the team need a jolt to the system because we have seen earlier on in the season that the club possess quality to be consistent and get wins.
Team News:
Burnley: Phillip Bardsley is only 50/50 to make this match after his back injury. Robert Brady is back in training after his hamstring injury and looks set to make this encounter. Josh Brownhill has a minor back problem but is being tipped to be fine. Nick Pope sat a week out with his head injury but should be fine to be selected for this game. Dale Stephens has recovered from his hamstring injury and is back in contention.
Everton: There is bad news for Everton as Lucas Digne has been confirmed to miss 2-3 months after his latest ankle injury. Seamus Coleman is back in training after his hamstring injury but will likely miss this match.
Burnley vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season Burnley won this fixture 1-0.
Everton last won at Burnley in 2018 winning the game 5-1.
The clubs have not drawn a game since 1975.
The last three meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Burnley vs Everton Prediction:
In some games this weekend fans will be allowed back, usually only 2,000. For Burnley though they are in tier 3 which means no fans will be allowed. This should work in Everton’s favour. We have seen Arsenal in Europe in midweek put in a very strong display with 2,000 fans allowed and the players really seemed to react that their own fans were present, that could have been the same case for Burnley.
Burnley can’t be taken lightly, they were starting to show some form before the City loss. Everton are just spinning out of control, not so much with their performances on the pitch but they do need some belief back in their play again.
If Everton were facing Burnley a month ago it would be easy to think of a straight forward away victory, now there are doubts. With that in mind, the value certainly looks to be with Burnley, especially considering the home advantage, therefore backing them for the win or draw double chance looks a good option.
It would also be crazy to ignore the goals markets with Everton playing, so we have included a couple of goals based selections too.
