England Premier League

Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek against Everton but you sense that won’t play on their minds too much. This is a club who have been newly promoted and look like they are heading straight back to the Championship and the league has to take priority. After 10 games Burnley have won just 4 points and are in 19th place and their win over Luton remains their only joy this season so far.
The Clarets have lost their last 3 games with losses against Chelsea, Brentford and last weekend Bournemouth. Defence continues to be a problem with 9 goals conceded in those defeats and with 25 shipped overall they have the second to worst defence. Where is the good news? Well we are still early into the season and that means despite a poor start if Vincent Kompany’s side were to win at the weekend they would probably escape the relegation zone. There should be caution though and that is Burnley have the worst home record in the league with five games played and five defeats and have scored just four goals and are conceding an average of three goals per home game, ouch!
For Crystal Palace it is just one win from their last five and that includes two defeats back to back coming into this game. That form has seen Roy Hodgson’s side drop to 13th place and they have 12 points. They are still looking good for their usual mid season finish but there has been no progress after a fairly bright start to the campaign. In their last two games Palace have lost to Newcastle and Tottenham and conceded six goals in those games. Granted they are difficult games and they will feel that they have more of a chance in these types of fixtures. It’s already been more than a month since the Eagles won their last game which came away against Manchester United. Indeed Palace have a better away record so far with seven points won from a possible 15. Goals on the road are lacking though with just four scored so far.
Team News:
Burnley: Josh Cullen is suspended for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Jordan Beyer remains a major doubt to return for this one because of a knock. Lyle Foster could return but was ill this week, Michael Obafemi and Manuel Benson remain doubts with fitness issues but could be assessed.
Crystal Palace: This game looks like it will come too soon for Eberechi Eze who is recovering from a hamstring injury and is not due back until next week. Tyrick Mitchell will be assessed following a minor knock. James Tomkins has a calf injury and is out and Michael Olise remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Burnley vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
The last time the teams met here was two years ago and we were entertained to a six goal thriller that finished 3-3.
In the last 5 meetings Crystal Palace have been unable to beat Burnley.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Burnley vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
If Burnley are going to turn the tide then one would think it would start at home. Perhaps a big plus is that the Clarets have a very good recent record over Palace and the Eagles form has certainly dipped in recent weeks. This should be an interesting contest because the clubs are fairly equal but we may not be entertained to the six goal game from a couple of years ago. We have talked that this game may be the perfect moment for Burnley to start winning games again but they have been poor and Palace will be looking at this fixture to kick start their form again.
You have to wonder what the defeat in midweek took out of Burnley? Yes changes were made but some key players still got a run out while Palace were able to take the week off, this is a game that could go either way but we will pick the more experienced side that know how to grind out a win when they need one.
