Burnley vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 6th February 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

And the last two teams to beat Liverpool at Anfield were…. Stand up Burnley and Brighton. Burnley stunned Liverpool by breaking their unbeaten record in the league at home a couple of weeks ago. Brighton produced possibly the bigger shock because Liverpool seemed to be back after a blip and had won their last two away games. Both teams won their respective games 1-0 and both deserved their victories.

Burnley have dropped down to 17th after Brighton’s good form, they lost 2-0 in midweek against Manchester City and come into this match having lost their last two in a row. The good news is that even though they are in 17th place the gap to 18th is 8 points. Burnley’s form has been all over the place as they have lost 3 of their last five games and yet have recently beaten quality in Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Brighton’s recent form where they have gone 4 games without defeat looks like it will ensure their safety this season. Graham Potter’s side were one of the favourites to be involved in a relegation battle before Christmas but they are now 10 points clear of the bottom three and have moved up to 15th place.

The visitors have won their last 2 games and have beat quality in Liverpool and Tottenham, this game should be a walk in the park but of course that is not how football works. Away from home Brighton have won 4, lost 4 and drawn 3, though the club have won their last 2 games and have lost just once in their last five outings.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes has missed a number of games due to a knock and will be assessed ahead of the game. Robert Brady has an achilles injury and is a doubt. Josh Brownhill is 50/50 with his foot injury. Charlie Taylor will face a late test as he appears to have recovered from his hamstring injury. Chris Wood is a major doubt with his hamstring injury.

Brighton: Joel Veltman had a muscle injury and is hopeful to be back for this game. Solly March is ruled out with a knee injury. Alexis Macallister is 50/50 to return after his glute injury and Tariq Lamptey faces more time on the sidelines and could be ruled out for another 2 weeks due to his hamstring injury.

Burnley vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Brighton.

From the last six games in which Burnley have been at home against Brighton, Burnley have won just once.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Brighton Prediction:

Of the two teams it is Brighton who come into this match with more solid results recently and even though they are away from home against a difficult opponent they should be considered as the slight favourites.

Burnley’s form is a little mixed and even though they are not out of the woods in terms of going down the 8 point safety net means for now the club will not feel under huge pressure. Brighton have pulled off some terrific results of late but it is games like these that can make the difference and see the club rise up the table, not only is it great for the motivation of the players but also of course for end of season financial reasons.

The odds on this game is very open and full of good value and the reason is clear; both sides are pretty much equal and the final result is not certain. But we will stick with the team in form to get something out of the game.
