England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
It seems like it has been a long time ago since Burnley played a game and that would be true in footballing terms- it has been over two weeks and they have only played one game so far. That game was against the champions Manchester City and at home they lost 3-0. Manager Vincent Kompany witnessed his club side at full throttle and the club would have been itching to play again. The way the fixtures have landed means that the Clarets get to play their first two games of the season at home and they will also be in search of their first goal of the campaign.
Aston Villa’s opening two games have seen 10 goals although it hasn’t always been a positive for Unai Emery’s side. They opened their account in nightmare fashion as they were beaten 5-1 away at Newcastle- a defeat was expected but conceding 5 goals could well have given way to players losing their confidence early on and struggling. However that didn’t happen because in their next game which was their first home match of the season they battered Everton winning the game 4-0 and we could argue that confidence is now restored. Although how will Villa fare away from home and will it be a problem for the season? It is of course too early to tell just yet but this game will reveal some of those clues. Certainly Villa are the more dangerous side here and have the better attacking options and an experienced manager and they will start the game as the favourites to win it, for Burnley they need to prove a point. Losing two games at home back to back could set the club back before we get to September.

Emiliano Buendia is out long term with his knee and Emiliano Martinez has a calf injury, he hasn’t been ruled out but remains a doubt and will be assessed.

Burnley vs Aston Villa Prediction:
There will be pressure on Burnley here to get a goal and get points on the board. Even though one could argue that playing Manchester City and Aston Villa as your first two home games isn’t easy, losing both would let in doubt going forward. We have seen time and again that newly promoted sides have stayed up based on their home form, can the Burnley players take that pressure? It will be important for them to get off to a positive start here.
Aston Villa showed a lot of quality in the last four months of last season and under Emery they look like a different side. We will know if they can keep up their consistency from last season a bit better if they were to get a good win here. The Newcastle loss made everyone think, but perhaps Newcastle away from home is going to be too much for almost every side in the league. Villa are the favourites but a good value price and one would believe that the club would be buzzing after putting 4 past hapless Everton.
