England Premier League
Wednesday 27th January 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor
Match Preview:
Burnley recorded one of the shocks of the season as they went to Liverpool and beat them 1-0. Liverpool hadn’t lost at Anfield in the league for an incredible 68 games and nobody could have predicted what would happen. It was a result for the ages for Burnley and the hope is that the club won’t look back from this and won’t be involved in any relegation battle.
As a result Sean Dyche’s team are in 15th place with 19 points and seven clear of the bottom three. The victory over Liverpool was only Burnley’s 5th of the season and 2nd away from home. A win here would see them join Wolves on the same points if they lose their own game to Chelsea in midweek.
At home Burnley have lost 50% of their games and their last match here ended in a 1-0 defeat over Manchester United. Whilst Burnley have only conceded 8 goals at home they have also only scored 5 which is a concern.
Aston Villa are in 8th place but have 2 games in hand over most of their rivals above them. Villa ended a 3 game run without a win last week as they beat Newcastle 2-0 at home and depending on other results Villa could move into sixth with victory here.
Villa have done well away from home and in fact has the 5th best away record with 5 wins from 9 games. Although Dean Smith’s side have failed to win in their last 3 away games. This won’t be of great concern to the club given that 2 of those games were against both Manchester sides.
Team News:
Burnley: Ashley Barnes, Robert Brady and Josh Brownhill are all being assessed for knocks ahead of the game but are being tipped to be fine. Charlie Taylor has recovered from his hamstring but is only 50/50 to play.
Aston Villa: There are no new injury concerns for the club ahead of the game.
Burnley vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture the clash ended 0-0.
Last season Aston Villa beat Burnley 2-1 in this fixture.
5 of the last seven league meetings has seen both teams to score.
Burnley vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Burnley will be feeling good about themselves after beating Liverpool, it was a magnificent result by the club, but like Watford found out last season it is just one game. Watford of course were the first side to beat Liverpool last season and still got relegated. For Burnley they are on their way to survival and now it is about picking off points here and there but this fixture remains very difficult for them.
Aston Villa really just need to find some consistency because they have a legitimate shout for a European place come the end of the season.
In theory if Villa won their games in hand they would be above Liverpool and 4th positon now so they need to keep that momentum. We see this being a very close game, which make the odds on Burnley more favourable as we're able to back them to win or draw at home as good value, so that will be out main bet.
