Burnley vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 1st January 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley are in 13th and they come into this game having lost their last two matches. Their latest defeat came at the hands of Manchester United, convincingly losing 2-0.

Sean Dyche’s team are 6 points clear of the bottom three but you feel that the pressure still remains and this game on New Year’s Day could be a great opportunity to pull further clear.

Recent home form for Burnley has been poor with 3 defeats from their last 4 games though they have had to play both Manchester teams in that time but they also lost to Crystal Palace. They have won 50% of their games at home and are yet to draw at Turf Moor this season.

Aston Villa are in 18th place with the same number of points as their position and just one win would send them clear of the bottom three. However they are going through a nightmare spell at the moment where they have lost 4 of their last 5 games. They lost 3-0 to Watford a few days ago who are 19th and a direct rival.

The damning fact is that Villa have the worst away record in the league with just 1 win all season and 8 losses. They have won just 4 points from a possible 30 and are conceding on average just over 2 goals a game. They come into this match having lost their last 3 consecutive matches.

Team News:

Burnley: Aaron Lennon has missed the last 2 games through illness and he will face a late decision to see if he will be involved in this one. Ben Gibson has an on going groin injury and could miss this game.

Aston Villa: Tyrone Mings is only 50/50 to make the squad after his hamstring injury has seen the player miss the Christmas period. Matt Targett is ‘targeting’ a return for this game after a minor knock.

Burnley vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

The team have not played here since 2014 when the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Earlier this season this game ended 2-2.

Over the last 15 years the clubs have played 7 times and Burnley has just 1 win.

Burnley vs Aston Villa Prediction:

This game is set to be very close and indeed previous encounters between the teams would suggest that. There is a lot on the table and this is why we think this could be low scoring and a cautious game. One of our choices is to see the draw at half time and also more goals to be scored in the 2nd half. It is hard to judge on history since the teams have not played each other many times in the recent era. Burnley should be favourites to win this game but again a 50% win rate at home doesn’t fill us with a lot of confidence, we will also look into the 'under' goals market for this game.

Burnley vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
