Brighton vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton haven’t given up on European football next season despite a few setbacks and they have the advantage of 2 games in hand over 7th placed Liverpool who currently occupy the final European place. It’s been two defeats in the last three though for Roberto Di Zerbi’s side and have they have been feeling low with a recent FA Cup semi-final knock out against Manchester United which came down to a penalty shoot out.

In midweek the Seagulls had taken the lead against Nottingham Forest but were stunned to see Forest who have struggled for most of the season mount a comeback and De Zerbi’s side eventually lost the game 3-1. Still in 8th place with 49 points they will not be giving up the chase just yet and will also be happy to return home. At home despite a recent mixed bag of results it has been just one defeat here and the Seagulls have gone their last 3 games without a loss after recent home wins against West Ham and Crystal Palace and their last home ended in a 3-3 draw with Brentford.

Wolves look home and dry with 37 points after dicing with relegation earlier in the season and they should be fine now. Julen Lopetegui’s side have found form at the right time earning 10 points from their last 15 and three wins from their last four, that isn’t relegation form and the club have bolted up to 13th place and are 8 points from the bottom three. The clubs last game ended in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. It is fairly close down there still though and Wolves could see both Bournemouth and West Ham pass them if they were to lose this game and the club would feel safer with a win and a wider safety net.

Away form for Wolves is like night and day though and that has remained a big concern for the club. They have won just twice on the road with no recent wins and only 2 points won from their last 15 on offer.

Team News:

Brighton: Evan Ferguson is only 50/50 to return here after an ankle injury and he may not be risked

Wolves: There are no new injuries for the club ahead of this game

Brighton vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this fixture 1-0.

Brighton have won the last 2 meeting which have both taken place at Wolves.

Wolves have won just two times from the last ten meetings.

4 of the last 5 games have seen over 2.5 goals.

Brighton vs Wolves Prediction:

We expect Brighton to have too much for Wolves and as we near the end of the Premier League season both clubs may feel fairly relaxed coming into this game compared to some teams who have huge fixtures this weekend. Brighton have that added pressure as they don’t want to see their European hopes fade away while Wolves will feel safe but would like some confirmation of that. At home though the Seagulls have been solid and when they need a performance they normally bring it. What is important to note is that Brighton have actually not been able to play at home for the last 4 games which is quite stunning with the way the fixtures have worked out and that goes back to April 1st so the fans will really have been starved of live football and we should expect a good atmosphere at the game.

Wolves for their part have got some good results over Brighton recently but this game looks like being one of those home matches where the home team will be too strong, think of Brighton’s recent 4-0 crushing of West Ham as evidence and Wolves have had a similar season to the London club.
