Brighton vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 22nd January 2024
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton are still well in the mix to finish in a European place and have lost just one game in their past five but have been hindered by too many draws of late. Their last game was 20 days ago and they forced a 0-0 draw away to West Ham. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are in 8th place and have 31 points and they would shoot past Manchester United with victory here given that United do not play until the end of the month.

The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last 3 games and their last game at home ended in a superb 4-2 rout of Tottenham. Indeed at home Brighton have been strong with just one defeat so far. However with a win rate of 50% you’d have expected that to be higher and that comes down to the clubs draws this season and 40% alone have been at home. In the FA Cup played last week Brighton overcame Stoke to win an entertaining game 4-2. Wolves are in 11th place and have 28 points so would join their hosts on the same points with a win. Recent form has basically sealed survival this season with 3 wins in a row coming into this game, those victories have come against Chelsea, Brentford and Everton. The goals have been raining in too with 9 scored in those games they also beat Brentford 3-2 in their FA Cup replay, so this has been a great moment for the club. Of course with a winter break staggering the games maybe this won’t play into the favour of a club hitting form but this game should reveal to us where Wolves are currently at.

Team News:

Brighton: Simon Adingra and Kaoru Mitoma are both on international duty. Joel Veltman isn’t expected back for at least 3 weeks with a knee injury. Igor Julio could be assessed with his Achilles but he is just 50/50 to return. Julio Enciso remains sidelined with a knee injury and is not expected back for another month. That is the same time frame for Ansu Fati who has a muscle injury. Soloman March and Tariq Lamptley remain out with knee and muscle injuries respectively.

Wolves: Rayan Ait-Nouri, Justin Hubner, Hwang Hee-Chan and Boubacar Traore are all on international duty. Jonny is not being considered to return until the end of the month at the earliest. Joao Gomes is suspended and not due back for 10 days.

Brighton vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Brighton won this fixture 6-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 4-1.

Brighton have won the last four meetings against Wolves.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Brighton vs Wolves Prediction:

Brighton are missing one or two regular players but Wolves seem to be missing a quarter of key players because of international competitions, and the home side look favourites to win this game. We will be backing them even at an odds on price which still has some meat on the bone and decent value. Brighton have a good record over Wolves and are scoring goals against them too. It’s true that Wolves have got form coming into this game but that was before the international mid season competitions sprung into life and it surely will affect the side.

An away evening game is never easy and we see only one winner here and we might even see a fair few goals too. It can’t be easy facing a side who have put 10 goals past you in the last two games and now you are depleted of some of your best players, for us this is a home win all the way.
