Brighton vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd January 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton’s survival remains under threat after collecting just 3 points from their last 15 and they come into the new year in 17th place. They are 2 points clear of the bottom three which is too close for comfort and in their last game they lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal.

As the score suggests the Arsenal game was very close and looked like Brighton would be heading for another draw. Had the game ended all square Brighton would have drawn 50% of all their games so far. The club have won just twice so far and at home they have no wins. Graham Potter’s side have won just 4 points from a possible 24 at home and unlike the previous two seasons have been really disappointing at their own stadium.

Wolves have dropped to 12th position after going their last 3 games without a win. Their last match ended in a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United and they were unlucky in that game which seemed headed for a draw and the goal was also a deflection. The club need to pick themselves up quickly or all of their early season good work will have been for nothing. Victory over Chelsea is Wolves' only win in their last five games.

Away from home Wolves have lost 5 games from 8 and recent form is not good having lost their last 3 in a row. They have only scored six goals away from home and two of those came against Arsenal in what was their last away win four weeks ago.

Team News:

Brighton: Adam Lallana is only 50/50 for this game after his recent groin injury. Danny Welbeck is set to play after a spell on the sidelines but may face a late test.

Wolves: Marcal is only 50/50 after his knock and will be assessed. Leander Dendoncker will face a late test and is 50/50 after his knock.

Brighton vs Wolves Prediction:

Wolves aren't in great form and Brighton rarely win games but they need this one to give themselves some breathing space and belief.

The good news for Brighton is that they seem to be Wolves’ bogey team. Wolves have started a little sluggish lately and if the home side can set up well they might cause problems for Wolves. This should be quite an intense match and closely fought, and it really could go anyway. Wolves are a quality side but they seem to have lost a little belief and perhaps Brighton can take advantage of that.

Having said that, Wolves were very unlucky against Man Utd, and we feel they may well make amends in this game. Therefore, backing the double chance on a Wolves win given their the quality side seems to be decent enough value and of course covers us for the draw too.
