Brighton vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 16th March 2022
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton have the worst form in the Premier League losing their last 5 games, conceding 11 goals in that time and scoring just once. The Seagulls have looked like a bottom three side for the past month but because of a strong showing in the first half of the campaign they will be fine.

Graham Potter has been given many plaudits this season but the last month has certainly dented his reputation and the club have slipped to 13th place and have 33 points. These are worrying times for the manager given that this is currently his worst run since taking the job. At the weekend they lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool and that was the Seagulls third loss in a row in front of their own fans. Indeed Brighton have not won at home this year and we would have to go back to Boxing Day for their last victory at home when they beat Brentford 2-0. Victory here could see Potter’s side move up 2-3 places depending on other results as it is quite tight and close where they are.

Tottenham are up and down but have at least been entertaining for their money. At the weekend despite scoring 2 goals against Manchester United they lost out to a superb Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick and that has dented the clubs Champions League hopes. It’s two defeats from their last four games and even though they have 2 games in hand over their direct rivals they are slipping away and come into this game in 8th place.

Goals wise there is no fear there as Spurs have netted 11 times in their last 3 games, they are six points behind 4th placed Arsenal but have played one more game. One could presume that if Tottenham were to drop points here that could be the end of their top 4 hopes especially if Arsenal were to win their next game. On the road it’s 3 defeats from their last 5 and while they have won 6 games they have also lost six. There looks to be no threat of Tottenham losing any places this season given that they have a 9 point lead over 9th placed Aston Villa.

Team News:

Brighton: Adam Lallana has a hamstring injury but he hasn’t been officially ruled out of this game and could be assessed. Adam Webster is still out with his groin and isn’t expected back for another two weeks at least.

Tottenham: Ryan Sessegnon could miss the next three weeks due to a hamstring injury, while Oliver Skipp (groin) and Japhet Tanganga (knee) remain sidelined.

Brighton vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-0 to Brighton.

Tottenham knocked Brighton out of the FA Cup last month beating them 3-1 in London.

Tottenham have won 5 of the last seven meetings against Brighton.

Brighton vs Tottenham Prediction:

This game feels like make or break for Tottenham to try and keep their slim hopes of Champions League qualification alive for next season. So we expect the away side to dominate play and have the best chances and bulk of possession. While Tottenham are not consistent they are scoring many goals and that should count for a lot in this game.

Brighton look very poor and their bad form will end and it may happen at home but we don’t think it will be in this game. There is a lot of behind the scenes work to do especially in defence and that won’t be fixed too quick. There is also the question of motivation and the only team who will have this is Tottenham. Brighton’s season is evaporating very rapidly now.

Harry Kane has scored many goals against Brighton and we expect him to be on the score sheet again, he has found his form now and could end the season on a personal high for him as he looks to beat more goalscoring records. For us this looks like an away win but with Tottenham being fairly unpredictable we have covered the draw on the refund.
