Brighton vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 5th October 2019
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

A new batch of Premier League fixtures will kick off with the Saturday lunch time game where Brighton in 16th place will take on Tottenham in 6th.

Tottenham must be shuddering at the thought of having to play another team who start with the letter B after what happened in midweek in the Champions League. There will be a massive fall out of epic proportions after Bayern Munich came to London and beat last seasons Champions League finalists 7-2. It was a crushing defeat made even worse by the fact that Tottenham had taken the lead.

With a recent Carabao Cup exit and now their Champions League hopes looking in the balance one wonders what is the problem with a club that have improved so much under manager Mauricio Pochettino in the past few seasons?

It’s possible that everything is simply taken its toll with the club, that could be sensed back in the summer of 2018 when the club didn't make any new signings. Also, because their international players had done so well in the World Cup, they didn’t get a proper pre-season together, and all of this can have a knock on effect even if the team did reach a Champions League final. Maybe Pochettino really didn’t have to reinforce the midfield with Tanguy Ndombele, and maybe the club have too many players vying for the same position.

On the plus side, Tottenham did win their last Premier League game beating Southampton 2-1, and have lost just once in their last four outings. However a pattern is emerging away from home where they are yet to win.

Brighton have really struggled this season with just 1 win, which was in their opening game. Their last match ended in a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea and their last home match was a 1-1 draw with Burnley. The club are playing some nice football, but have not won any home games from the three they have played so far and have collected just 2 points in front of their home fans from a possible 9.

Team News:

Brighton: Davy Propper should be back after a minor knock. Solly March has recovered from his hamstring injury but remains 50/50 to be fit for this game. Shane Duffy is ruled out with a calf problem. Bernardo could miss the game with a knock

Tottenham: Serge Aurier is suspended for this game after picking up 2 yellow’s v Southampton. He is the only new absentee for the club

Brighton vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season in the league this match ended 2-1 to Tottenham.

The clubs have met each other 6 times in the last 15 years and Tottenham have won 5 of those matches with one draw.

The last two meetings when at Brighton saw both teams to score.

Brighton vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham need a pick me up and it is unclear how the club will react to being humbled by such a large score in midweek. Perhaps Brighton are the perfect opposition for Tottenham to move on with, and one feels the team will be more than happy not to have to play at home straight after the Bayern game. Still, Tottenham are just odds on and we feel with all the uncertainty around the club right now that may not offer the best value. Instead we will back both teams to score and also back Harry Kane to get on the score sheet, he of all players will want to prove something in this match.

Brighton vs Tottenham Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Harry Kane at 1.91
