Brighton vs Southampton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 24th April 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Here we have two clubs that are in the same boat, both are safe and both won’t qualify for Europe.

Brighton have been up and down in terms of form this season and a 3 game unbeaten run ended at the hands of Manchester City in midweek as Graham Potter’s side lost 3-0. It was an interesting game and Brighton who were the huge outsiders forced City into a 0-0 by half time. It would have been an expected loss though and the Seagulls should be fine to move on with it and try and get back to winning ways in this game. Brighton are in 10th place with 40 points and 9th looks like the highest they will be able to finish this season. The club have performed better away from home and in front of their own fans they have won just 3 times so far. Their last home finished 0-0 against bottom club Norwich and although that wouldn’t have been an acceptable result it did end a terrible 4 game losing streak at home.

Southampton recently lost 6-0 at home to Chelsea and then beat Arsenal only to lose against Burnley in midweek and that sums up Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side - expect anything. There has been no real consistency from the club but they are more than safe and victory here would see the Saints go past their hosts as they are just 1 point behind them coming into this game.

It’s just one win in their last five games and as mentioned their last game ended in a 2-0 defeat at Burnley and it could have been a bigger loss if not for VAR. On the road Hasenhuttl’s side have been poor losing 50% of their games and have not won any games since beating Tottenham of all teams 3-2 over two months ago.

Team News:

Brighton: Leandro Trossard has been ill but it is hopeful he will recover in time for this game. Shane Duffy has a thigh injury and is touch and go to recover for this match. Yves Bissouma is serving a 2 game suspension and is out. Steven Alzate is being tipped to return after illness.

Southampton: The Saints have no injuries ahead of this fixture.

Brighton vs Southampton Head to Head:

Last season Southampton won this fixture 2-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 1-1.

Both teams to score has happened in the last four meetings in a row.

5 of the last ten meetings has finished in draws.

Brighton vs Southampton Prediction:

There really is nothing between these two sides who are very equal and we are not expecting one of the best games to watch this weekend being this one. There is a high percentage of recent draws and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this game finished like this. Backing the draw is always a risk though, and we feel Brighton have the edge in this encounter, therefore a "draw no bet" for Brighton enables us to be covered on the refund if a draw does happen, which gives that bit extra safety.

This could be a physical game although there isn’t much to play for and both sides have been quite unpredictable this season, so we expect a slow game and especially a slow start to proceedings that is why backing the 0-0 correct score at half time could be good value. Neal Maupay has scored a few goals in this fixture recently and he could be worth a small stake to score anytime.

Brighton vs Southampton Betting Tips:

Draw no bet (Brighton) at 1.50

Anytime goalscorer: Neal Maupay at 2.25

Half Time Correct Score: 0-0 at 2.75
