Brighton vs Southampton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 7th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton are down in 16th place but their recent form would have them pushing for a top 10 position, and they will come into this tricky game in good spirits.

Last weekend Graham Potter’s side recorded a fantastic result against Liverpool drawing 1-1. In truth he will know his club had some luck with disallowed goals and a penalty in injury time but it was a great point for the club and would have put the players in a good mind set.

The Seagulls have gone their last 3 games unbeaten with a win over Aston Villa and a 0-0 draw against Burnley. Victory here may not propel Brighton up the table but it will give them more of a safety net against the bottom three, currently they have a 4 point gap to 18th.

Southampton have been strong the past six weeks but they have suddenly gone 2 games without a win. The Saints drew against Wolves and then imploded against Manchester United losing 3-2 after being 2-0 up. This match then feels like an important one for Ralph Hasenhutl’s side, as you get the feeling they will need that winning feeling back to go on a solid run in the lead up to Christmas.

The Saints currently have a near identical away record to home and have gone their last four games on the road without defeat. They have beaten both Burnley and Aston Villa in recent away games and have not tasted defeat on he road since losing to Crystal Palace almost three months ago.

Team News:

Brighton: Adam Lallana’s groin injury is back after he recovered and was seemingly rushed back to face his former club Liverpool. He is expected to miss a further two weeks. Neal Maupay has a minor hamstring injury and will face a late assessment ahead of the game. Davy Propper looks set to miss this match through a lack of fitness.

Southampton: Danny Ings could be a surprise inclusion after a speedy recovery from his knee injury. He was due to miss a further two weeks and will face a late test to see if he can comeback for this encounter. Nathan Redmond is 50/50 to make this game with his hamstring, Mohammed Salisu is going to miss out due to fitness issues after recovering from injury.

Brighton vs Southampton Head to Head:

Last season Southampton beat Brighton 2-0 in this fixture.

Brighton have not beaten Southampton in any competition since 2012.

Six of their last Premier League meetings has seen 4 of these end with both teams to score.

Brighton vs Southampton Prediction:

If Danny Ings can make his comeback and doesn’t look rusty this is going to give the Saints a lot of encouragement, it will certainly be an injection of confidence, the question is can they find their form of a few weeks ago?

Brighton will come into this match feeling positive too, and given we are so early into this league campaign we could see an open game and that means goals. The goal market we should concentrate on and history says both teams to score is almost a given here and we will back that.

Let’s also look into the goalscorers market, this might be better value than backing he actual result because both clubs have some form and could cancel each other out.

Brighton vs Southampton Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 1.66

Over 2.5 total goals at 1.90

Anytime goalscorer: James Ward-Prowse at 4.00
